Has anyone heard or read about itching as part of RLS? I've been getting someone my ankles and lower legs and tummy with no sign of rash or anything.

Yes! Me Too. I think it may have been a reaction to a higher dose of gabapentin which I then lowered and it seems to have gone away.

You may have had slight edema in your lower legs which you didn't notice which can itch. I have it and didn't have it until I was on a higher dose of gabapentin. It is a side effect in some.

That's helpful Sue - thanks 🙂

Not personally, but see this chain (and other posts on the forum): healthunlocked.com/rlsuk/po...

Yep. It's heat related from the thrutching, kicking and twitching. Moisturiser, E45 anti itch products help x

Yes, I sometimes get an itch in a random spot on my leg, and it sets my rls off. I have creamed my legs to make sure it's not dry skin that's the problem but it still happens.

Hi,yes,I get an itch on my left ankle,no rash but seems to start in the evening.i never related it to my RLS,I was on Pramipexole for many years, now I'm on Pregablin it has lessened.

Oh, forgot to say I'm still weaning off Pramipexole, I take half of my prescribed dose so maybe that's why the itch is not as bad.

Yes! It recently started happening to me. I get terrible itching EVERYWHERE from my knees right up to my waist! I can also find no sign of rashes, no allergies, I've had no medication changes, haven't changed laundry detergent or fabric softener, no new creams, lotions or soaps, I don't use any bubble baths or bath salts. I started researching and found, to my surprise that it can be a symptom of RLS. I wasn't even looking for that. I just did a Google search for "itching in lower body no rash" and it came up. So, now I have to deal with yet another new RLS symptom. At least I know I'm not in the proverbial boat on my own. If you find a solution for dealing with it please share it. Good luck!

Oh my! I have exactly the same thing. Like you, I have made no changes. I did, however, have a death in the family (my son) so I attributed it to anxiety. But now this post makes more sense. I’ve been taking Ropinirol for a couple of years. Now the question is, “What do we do now?”

Have you thought about coming off ropinirole and switching to gabapentin since ropinirole is no longer the first-line treatment for RLS? Up to 70% of patients will suffer from augmentation which believe me you don't want. It used to be the first-line treatment which is why so many doctors prescribed it but they are not up to date on the current treatment recommendations. Check out the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS which will tell you everything you want to know including about its treatment and refer your doctor to it if needed as many doctors do not know much about RLS or are not uptodate on it as yours obviously isn't at

Thank you. I'll go to the link you included and ask my doctor about it.

I too noticed the "itch" years ago. Shortly after laying down, I get random itch spots. Leg, arm, ear and so on. Within minutes, my RLS will start. It is NOT med related! I say this with confidence because I don't use any meds....other than Tylenol or ibuprofen once in awhile.

I too have random itching. Wow... strange that so many are commenting on it. Hmmmm....

It really revved up when I got to 200mg of Gabapentin, so I dropped that.

Yep, I used to get it. I think it may have been caused by Gabapentin. I haven't had it in awhile. Probably tonight. :-)

It is possible that you have a histamine intolerance. I have it and know that too much histamine, caused by histamine intolerance and ingestion of moderate and high histamine foods, can cause 2 reactions:1) itching AND 2) exacerbation of RLS (and many other symptoms also). I suggest that you Google "list of high and moderate histamine foods and eliminate these from your diet and see if it helps both your itching and your RLS.

Not what you're looking for?
