Hi all

I would like to inform you about a very interesting experience I’ve made. I think I have read nearly every single study regarding restless legs. Through my research I came across several studies regarding selenium administration.

I think the morst popular study regarding selenium an restless legs is this one:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I found the results quite impressing and started taking selenium but it did not show the expected results after a couple of weeks.

But then I found this study: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

There were only 3 participants which may seem quite ridiculous but the interesting fact was that all those 3 participants startet feeling a significant relieve in symptoms after about 4 month of selenium intake.

So I gave it a try and started with selenium supplementation mid October 2021. Through further research I found out that it is generally more suggested to take inorganic selenium instead of the organic one.

The really suprising thing is that my restless legs startet to get massively better since beginning of march this year, which means after about 4.5 months selenium intake. I was even able to reduce my medication!

I know best that there is not "the one" cure. And I have to say that I did some other things at the same time, so I startet drinking celery juice daily in february 22 and also started running regularly . Additionally I do some EFT (Emotional freedom technique) since february this year. This might all have additionally lead to the alleviation of my symptoms.

I did not measure my seleium level yet but my doctor is informed about my supplementation and I will have it checked later this year.

I have to say additionally, that the selenium content of the food products is dependent on the selenium level of the soil. Switzerland is known as a low level selenium area.

It is also important to know that one shoud not overdose selenium because this could be dangerous (which now sounds more dangerous than it is).

I can just encourage to check if selenium intake could be a help for you too. But please do proper research an check with your doctor to prevent from overdosing.

If your country is low in selenium you are very well advised to take it (though never above the recommended level, as you say, or it will be very bad for you), because low selenium levels are linked to cancer, among other things.I may try taking some, too. I think many minerals are important for RLS. Potassium is another big one.

What form of selenium do you take and what dose?

I’m taking the inorganic selenium (I think in english it’s called sodium selenite). Dose: 100µg.

Thanks for sharing. I'd never seen any mention of selenium supplements in relation to RLS...so one to try.

Thank you for all your research. I believe there are many meds out there that cause "unnatural" weight gain. I just have to really keep on top of what l eat and try not to over indulge.
