Can anyone advise re Temgesic probable side effect? I wake in the night with a very dry mouth. My tongue actually sticks to roof of my mouth.

Hi Biscuitface - I get very dry mouth just like you describe from the Butec patches and other treatment I have to take. There are sprays, pastilles, etc you can try. Obviously drink plenty of water anyhow but drinking water does not really help dry mouth. I use a spray called Biotene which you can buy from Amazon and from Boots. The range also includes toothpaste and a gel instead of a spray (which I did not like). The alcohol in some toothpastes and mouthwashes makes dry mouth worse. I keep the spray by my bedside to use during the night. The effect does not last that long but helps a lot and often helps me to get to sleep again. It also protects your teeth as there is xylitol in it and I know buprenorphine can adversely affect the teeth. During the day you could try sugar-free chewing gum. I also recently got pastilles called Salivix and I am finding these good. I got these from Amazon but I think Boots stock them. Also on Amazon there are little sugar-free sweets called Spry (also with xylitol) in different flavours. I liked the Cinnamon flavour. If you have a dog keep any of these well away from it as xylitol, whilst perfectly safe for humans, can kill dogs.

I hope this helps. RLS sucks!!!!!

Dry mouth is a known and listed side effect of buprenorphine. Jelbea has shared excellent experiences. The adverse effect of buprenorphine on teethe that Jelbea mention is through the dry mouth effect. That is not only unpleasant but also not good for your teeth.

Hello Pippins2 - It’s good you mentioned these. It’s another thing I have used and found helpful and I found that using just one lasted almost all night.

I take Temgesic and have also a very dry mouth during the night.

I have always a glass of water nearby and a spray called Coldamaris with Carragelose. This can also to be used when exposed with regard to Covid. To take together with Coldamaris/Carragelose nasal spray when being in not safe Covid situations . One can only buy it at a Pharmacy here in Austria. Carragelose is the ingredient against catching too much virus. There was some TV coverage about this, so I think it is trustworthy.

And thank you for all the "dry mouth" recommendations .

I don't take any medications and still have dry mouth. I have a 1y.o. daughter and all my RLS issues have suddenly disappeared. Instead i have dry mouth and belly bloating every night. I guess because of dopamine fountain in my brain. That's what nature does to keep your baby safe. I can wake up any time of the night and be 100 percent awake and alert
