Hi all - I’m wondering for those out there that are taking buprenorphine, how much you are taking and have you had to up your dosage at all in the process of finding what’s right for you?
Secondarily, anybody taking buprenorphine or opiate related anything for RLS while also taking meds for ADHD?
I take tramadol for RLS (50 mg) and adhd meds.
I take buprenophine in the form of sub-lingual Temgesic 200mcg so. I started on one tab and have settled on four 200mcg tabs each evening before bed. I take two about 8pm and the other two at bed time. I have the option of a fifth if I am up in the night.Taken like this I have no symptoms.
I was on tramadol for eight years, hydrocodone for 12 years and a few months ago was switched to Suboxone/Buprenorphine. 8mg. worked fine, (prescribed 12 mg.). And then I discovered my daily prayer of six years had finally been answered. Take it for what it’s worth, but I am a Christian man who just three months ago was going through opiate withdrawal (hydrocodone) 3x a day. (It’s imperative, however, to ask with the right motive... in my case, so that I could better serve Him.)
I stopped buprenorphine long enough to discover that God, in fact, had healed my refractory RLS of 20 years. Nothing short of a miracle. (At 18, God kept me alive while serving as a combat medic in Vietnam. And, of course, eternal life through repenting and believing in Jesus Christ is the greatest gift God has given me. Having said that, I came fairly close to dying 20 years ago from RLS…thinking of suicide or actually having my legs amputated. I was going insane from lack of sleep.) I can’t imagine a greater gift than being cured of this debilitating and terrifying condition.

I'm praising God with you, my friend. Jehovah Rapha has answered! I'm trusting that He is using my suffering with RLS for my good and His glory. And, oh, that He would heal me too! Of course He's already solved my biggest problem by giving me Himself. Anything beyond that is gravy.😊 Thank you so much for encouraging me and reminding me to hope.
Are you still on pramipexole? Have you had your ferritin checked - if so was it over 100?
No, I augmented on pramipexole last June. Ferritin levels were great... so disappointing! Now on hydrocodone, which only gets me a couple hours sleep and is rife with side effects. Thanks for asking.
Gabapentin is now the first line treatment for RLS. Check out the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS which will tell you everything you want to know including about its treatment and refer your doctor to it if needed at
Https://mayoclinicproceedings.org/a... It takes at least 3 weeks to be effective. Beginning dose is usually 300 mg gabapentin or 100 mg gabapentin if you are over the age of 65. After 3 weeks increase it by 100 mg every couple of days until you find the dose that works for you. take it 1-2 hours before bedtime. If you need more than 600 mg take the extra 4 hours before bedtime as it is not as well absorbed above 600 mg. If you need more than 1200 mg, take the extra 6 hours before bedtime. Most of the side effects of gabapentin or pregabalin will disappear after a few weeks and the few that don't will usually lessen. Those that remain are usually worth it for the elimination of the RLS symptoms. According to the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS: "Most RLS patients require 1200 to 1800 mg of gabapentin daily." I am on 1500 mg and it completely controls my RLS symptoms.
I am unable to take gabapentin. I took it for two years for myofascial pain syndrome and struggled with the loss of short-term memory. Only later did it become evident that my long-term memory of that time was also affected. Our youngest son was 4 -5 years old at the time. He died due to cancer at 16. Gabapentin stole my memory of a good portion of his life. Ain't goin' there again.
