Dairy free diet, it has helped stop rls at night

Around 5 months ago I was told I was lactose intolerant and needed to have a complete dairy free diet.

I've had rls for many years I just did not know I had it until I started to come off morphine and pregabalin, my doctor said it was rls and it might just be the rehab causing it, however my symptoms did not get better after rehabilitation they got worse and I ended so hopelessly desperate until I found healthunlocked where I found all of you out there going through the same stuff at 2am. It gave me hope and the knowledge I needed to find help.

I would never have thought lactose intolerance could of been one of my causes for rls but after being on a complete dairy free diet for 5 months my symptoms are hardly noticeable. When I do slip up and have any thing dairy my symptoms come back like they did last night because I had some sour cream and cheese with nachos big oops.

I do take pregabalin 75mg and amitriptaline 10mg pluse vitamins D,C,B12 complex and zinc plus magnesium at night which all help a little but did not help solely by themselves until I went dairy free.

I asked questions on here and looked for help and the answers, I also did alot of reading and research as there is alot of it.

Ultimately I think rls is unique to all of us as no two people are the same and we all feel it and go through it differently, but don't give up as I nearly did because there are things still to try and questions to still ask that might just help you find some relief.

What I have done and the medication and diet changes are working for me at the moment I'm not saying it will work for you but it's might just be a spark of hope for someone else like it was for me.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words help and support on here as it really did make an unbelievable difference to my life.

It's lovely to hear about your situation, and the helpful information. I'd never have thought of dairy products as having such a rotten effect on us. Well done, patience is a virtue. Right, any butter, milk etc out!! But NOT an éclair.

So, I've got to have some treats!

But seriously, I'll try and give it a try.

But another point you made. I couldn't agree more about us being unique. I've experienced people, including professional health care workers, who only accept my situation as being RLL if it totally matches a textbook description.

On quite a few occasions people have disputed my claim to having RLS, possibly because they've not seen. When this happens, I make a point of saying that I've got Lindy14's strain of RLS, which like most people with RLS has some form of uniqueness. Often', they tend to become seem embarrassed.

Anyway, Keep up the good work.

I take pregabalin for nerve pain not rsl so don’t have any experience to be able to help

I originally started taking pregabalin for nerve pain but when I stopped taking it I discovered it was hiding/helping rls.

I've been reading that doing an anti-inflammatory diet which includes removing dairy can improve or cure RLS.
