Hi my neurologist wrote to me a few days ago regarding the use is melatonin for insomnia she said it was licensed for short term use in adults over 55 years but in her experience it’s not a very effective treatment for insomnia. She added that a course of CBT was more effective.
She added that she will enquire wether my insomnia was due to rls or was a psychological condition.Ive no doubt that it’s rls that’s causing me so much trouble but she will come back to me.
In the meantime I’m pretty desperate no sleep last night my legs were horrendous and my whole body felt an awful urge to move resulting in no sleep at all.
I’m taking 150mg of Pregabalin and 0.088mg of pramipexole at 9pm. I’ve stopped taking codeine after taking many months because of addiction worries and I’ve been taking paracetamol instead
Any help would be appreciated.

Please read my recent reply to someone concerning melatonin dose. Most doctors are unaware of recent research..Measure it in micrograms rather than milligrams.🤓
I was also prescribed melatonin but here in Western Australia for 25 of them iam paying $110 which is ridiculous they are only 5mg and I have to take at least 4 of them , my dr is useless when it comes to rls I’ve told him countless times they are not working and he refuses to listen plus the are breaking my bank , I have also been on lyrica sifrol which I had a terrible time getting off both of them but made it through , he won’t refer me to a neurologist & opioids are completely out of the question with him , iam exhausted and don’t know where to go from here !! Any help within western Australian would be so appreciated as my rls is affecting my working life !! Plz help
I've found melatonin to be useless. I'm surprised at the cost. In the US its available over the counter for pennies a pill- but still useless. For insomnia I've found the following to be helpful: 1) not reading the news after 6:00 pm, 2) mindfulness, 3) Cognitive based training. Someone just posted this new mayo clinic article:mayoclinicproceedings.org/a...
Codeine is not that hard of addiction. The doctors today are allways very worried that you can be addicted to opioid and personally I think there's no problem. The problem is the sickness the person have and some times opioid is the right way. 150mg of pregebalin helps rls and other nerves to calm down and also have a psychological effect. Like a happy pill. Myself goes on 300mg of pregebalin on the morning and evening and I also have similar problems but the pregebalin works well. Just drink your daily routine of water because the kidneys takes a hit if you eat pregebalin.
Ask the doctor for a higher level of pregebalin, that will help in manny ways.
Sometime I don't understand why ordinary people can't get real medicine that works like sleep and pain medicine.
Im always having this talk with my doctor and if you just letting the doctor listen to you I think him/her will help you in the best way.
And if you really have a bad day of sleep you must have something that helps better like zolpidem or zopiklon. This is no problem to mix with pregebalin.
Pramipexole does I know notting about and melatonin doesn't work for me , only giving me nightmares.
I avoid melatonin like the plague. It was one of the first otc things I tried when my rls progressed to giving me insomnia. After taking the recomended dosage I my rls became many times worse than it have ever been moving from my legs only to my legs, back, shoulders, and arms. It left me wiggling my whole body for many hours instill it finely wore off. I would say if a doctor recomended it for rls he isnt very well informed on the subject. I would find a different doctor.
