Saw the RLS documentary earlier tonight on UK TV and realised that many people need further options for treatment, so I would like to share our treatments, which may possibly help others.
My wife has had RLS for a number of years. We gradually controlled it with a combination of several treatments.
Firstly, 2 bananas every day, (for potassium levels). Cost effective and a big help.
Secondly pull-on compression socks/ stockings for calf muscles.
Thirdly massage of the legs with patient laying face down. This can be painful on tense calf muscles, but has relief compensations afterwards as muscles relax.
She is now currently taking Pregabalin, clonazepam and occasional zopiclone, (for other conditions), but the spin off benefits are that compression stockings and massage are no longer required, sleep patterns are vastly better and restless legs are almost a thing of the past.
We have however found that bananas are still important as missing a day will re-introduce RLS twinges and signs.
I believe that anxiety issues are relevent and a proper sleep pattern is essential, though I am not medically trained, so the above suggestions for potential treatments would need to be discussed with your own medical professionals as a possible way forward for sufferers.
Beware that the above three drugs mentioned can be addictive and should only be used under medical supervision and slow weaning off is needed to avoid adverse withdrawal issues.
Hope this is of help to others.
