is rls possible during the daytime?
Uh oh!!
These questions are asked many times.
The simple answer to the first is yes they can.
However, it's not that simple, it depends. Pick the options below that fits your situation.
First options
Either
a) you have always had RLS during the day
Or
b) you didn't used to, but it's starting getting earlier.
Second options
Either
c) You are taking a medication for your RLS.
Or
d) You have never taken a medication for your RLS.
If your options were either a) or b) AND d) then your RLS may simply be that your RLS is getting worse with age.
If your options are b) and c) then the daytime RLS may be caused by the medication you're taking.
Will Requip help.
The simple answer, in the long term, is probably not. However, it may in the short term. It's your choice to make once you know some facts.
Assuming your options above were a) or b) and d), then Requip may be of some help in the short term. How long this help will last is very variable.
The reason for this is that Requip (ropinirole) is one of the three "dopamine agonists" (DAs) traditionally prescribed for RLS.
None of them are now recommended for the first treatment to be tried for RLS because of the very common risk of major complications.
If you do start on requip, you may get a complication.
If your options were b) and c) then I imagine the medicine you're taking for RLS is one of the DAs i.e. pramipexole, ropinirole or rotigotine. In this case you may be suffering a major complication already, i.e. "augmentation".
Overall, it doesn't really matter what your options are except if you're already taking a DA. If this is the case then you should consider weaning off it.
Otherwise, to treat or to prevent augmentation you should ask about starting on an alpha 2 delta ligand, pregabalin or gabapentin, instead of requip.
One important thing is, if you're not currently taking any medication, there are other things you should try before resorting to any drug.
These are a) iron therapy and b) eliminating exacerbating factors and triggers.
Excuse me for not elaborating on these, I'written these several times today.
