I augmented on Ropinerole. Tried several other meds and for the past two months have been taking 2.5 mg Methadone. I started out taking 5 mg at night with instructions from my Doctor to try cutting in half for a even lower dose which i did and it seemed to work however the past few weeks I go to sleep and wake up a few hours later . I am reluctant to take increasingly higher doses of an opiod. My RLS seems to be under control with occasional episodes and milder than usual. I am so frustrated. I am almost 79 years old of small stature and a life time sufferer of this condition. I know I am not alone in my frustration. I take iron, D Vitamins, Calcium and Magnesium and my labs now in "normal :range. .

Looks like you have been through the mill. Now you much be grateful for the horror that is not thee anymore and slowly deal with what is left. Knowing you won't go back. Take things one step at a time and weigh them out. I wish you freedom from pain, sleep and a comfortable life for the rest of you years. Like i always ask "Just for a little while". God Bless you and keep you safe.
Wakefulness and insomnia do happen with opioids. You could ask your doctor for zolpidem and take once or twice a week to help with sleep. Alternatively you could try medical cannabis- it knocks me out for 3-4 hours. It's now available at private clinics in the UK. You have to pay but it's well worth it.
I take 10mg methadone a day and have not noticed any insomnia. but remember we are all a bit different and what does not bother one person can bother another.
