I am on 1mg of Ropinirol I was panicking with it half an hour after Taking it. Given Clonazepam. It works mostly. If I start with it before I take the medication. I have to put up with it for an hour or so. As it comes different times from 2.00pm to 8.00pm daily. I was on 2 mg Ropinirol was getting augmentation by cutting it to 1mg that stopped the Augmentation. Now trying Iron tablets from Chemists. I am only on second day on Iron Tabs. See if it helps. Very depressed with it.

I'm afraid you're in a bit of a dilemma.

On the one hand if you stayed on 2 mg your augmentation will continue.

On the other, when you reduce the dose you get withdrawal effects.

If you cut it from 2mg to 1mg in one step, that is a massive reduction. and I imagine withdrawal effects to be very severe.

It's really not a good idea to reduce it by more than 0.25mg at a time and 0.125mg might be better. It's also better to wait at least 2 weeks after making a reduction before making another.

The aim of reducing it is to wean completely off it, the best way to eradicate augmentation.

As regards iron, this is a supplement, not a medicine. Don 't expect any benefit from this in days, weeks or even less than 3 months. The aim of taking iron is to increase your ferritin level and this could take some time.

A ferritin level of 100 can be achieved taking oral iron. If your ferritin is already over 75 (unlikely) then oral supplements may not help.

Iron is best taken once every two days (NOT daily), 30 mins before or 2 hours after eating. A glass of orange or a vit C tablet taken at the same time can help make it more effective.

It would be good for you to think about what you're going to replace the ropinirole with as you'll probably need something once you've stopped the ropinirole.

Hi there, I take ropinerol and iron . Just 3 (250 micrograms) of ropinerol at night and iron (250mg) twice a day plus codeine (30mg) again at night. This combination works 98% of the time, the exception being when I am sitting too long. If I don't take my night meds for whatever reason at night then my legs become insufferable all night and the next evening. Ropinerole definitely work for me along with the above combination.

I took clonozepan before Ropinerole but I suffered the side effect of constant spending.

I used to take 2 ropinerole in separate doses and my legs were starting in the afternoon but taking 3 at night has not solved it completely but RLS doesn't blight my life any more. Good luck with it, Jan

I can't say it any better than Manerva. Your in a place I have been and would not want to be ever again. I believe you are augmenting. It does get better, I promise.

Iron helped me a ton, but I got a jump start with an infusion of 1000mg of iron sucrose. The infusion woke me up to the benefits of iron. Eight weeks after my infusion, my ferritin was 114 from 30. If I had been doing that orally, I do think it could be done, but it would take (I am guessing here) a minimum of at least 3 months to see an effect, but it maybe as long as a year depending on how much you are supplementing with.

If you did a morning fasted full iron panel, then you may qualify for an infusion. I believe the parameters are Ferritin < 30 or Transferrin Saturation Percentage < 20%. The reason being is that it would take to long to bring your ferritin back up.

In the U.S. we can purchase liquid ferrous sulfate over the counter and cheap. I disagree with Manerva in that if your iron is low, supplementing twice a DAY can help. From the John Hopkins Restless Leg Foundation

"A study has shown that in patients whose serum ferritin was < 75 µg/l, oral iron therapy (325 mg ferrous sulfate twice a day on an empty stomach) on average improved RLS symptom after 3 months. "

From my experience, it is my belief the body has an internal mechanism to regulate iron. My suggestion is that you buy some fibre tablets and stole softeners for those times when it is necessary to alter the dosage,

In the beginning I did fine with 325mg twice a day, for about 4 weeks, this was after my infusion. Then I did 650mg once a day for 2 months. Then got retested. Now I do 325mg once a day, with no side effects. (I am currently testing iron bis-glycinate chelate which is a pill. I take it with vitamin C at night). My test is mid-February.

There are other deficiencies that are related to iron and RLS. I am finding that Vitamin D is helpful. There are others, B12, folate and any inflammation markers

It does get better, please let everyone around you know what you are dealing with. Please read the signs of DAWS, (Dopamine Agonist Withdrawal Syndrome). This is a great time to monitor your sanity, long walks, preferably in nature helped me. I didn't know or understand what was happening to me.

Good information is SO hard to find on the internet. This is one of the best places and I have found, been looking for awhile.

A great place to start the New Year. Good luck.

Hi, I topped out at 4mg Ropinrole/day about 5 years and found it no longer containing my RLS symptoms- my neurologist regarded 4mg as my safe maximum (mind you, he does deal with Parkinsons and MND patients on significantly bigger doses). Rather than treat the issue as one of me augmenting on Requip and having to cut back and reset, he instead added 50mg Lyrica to my daily dose. That in turn has increased over the years to 150mg per day. All I know is that most days I can function and work and that I will sleep for 6 to 61/2 hrs per night for about 90-95% of the time providing that I stick to these dosages. I would love to be taking less or even no medication but I can't afford the trauma and disruption that I think it would cause me. Perhaps your medical professional could consider substitution of Ropinrole with another drug such as Lyrica rather than you having to go through the stress of absolute dose reduction? i wish you good luck with your efforts in any case.
