Hi all, a friend suggested I tried Kratom as I have been on pregablin and Oxycodone and feel like I was in a downward spiral.

Well I’ve been using it for a 3 weeks now and completely stopped taking pregab! And I’m down to 15mg Oxy a day!!! From 80mg I don’t feel I need the Oxy now but dr suggest lowering the doses rather than just stopping dead.

Has anyone else tried this? As it’s changed my life I have loads of energy and mental clarity and I barely get any pain in my leg now!

Hi. My two sons got off roxys by the grace of kratom. It took me awhile to see it but kratom has been a godsend. I have RLS, and one night after suffering for over 4 hours, my son convinced nne to try kratom. My symptoms disappeared inn 30 min. It works! Good luck.

in reply to Leemiki2

What's roxys?

Kratom has helped many people get off heroine among other drugs. Funny how governments are stopping people using it. You'd nearly think they want these more dangerous drugs flowing through their communities.

I think Roxy is roxycodone.

Am delighted your boys got their sh1t together, Many people have benefited from Kratom this way. That makes me wonder why the establishment is so against it. Especially when people in the US are priced out of pharmacological interventions and need to turn else where for help.

Yes so many positive stories about Kratom, I’m sure there will be negative also but as far as I can see it’s changed my life! I get it from a place that sells it as “Tea” it’s helped my back pain no end and also calms the leg that is coming close to having a meeting with a chainsaw!

In the US the pharmaceutical companies are pushing very hard to get the stuff banned as it helps so many get off strong painkillers.

All I know it’s helping me no end and I even sleep at night now! If your able I would recommend it but where you get it makes a huge difference, don’t buy from a head shop where they sell CBD oil etc or anywhere in UK I get mine next day delivery from Europe it’s the biggest store in Europe....

Has anyone experienced the negative side effects? Listed on Wikipedia are "common side effects: decreased appetite, anorexia, weight loss, temporary erectile dysfunction, insomnia, sweating, hyperpigmentation, hair loss, tremor, and constipation". And "Long term use of high doses of kratom may lead to development of tolerance, dependence, and withdrawal symptoms on stopping, including loss of appetite, weight loss, decreased sexual drive, trouble sleeping, muscle spasms, muscle and bone pains, jerky movement, watery eyes, hot flushes, fever, diarrhea, restlessness, anger, and sadness. This may lead to return to use. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitra...

Hi DicCarlson,

I was taking kratom for many years. It worked brilliantly in the beginning but I developed tolerance and kept having to increase my dosage. I also started getting RLS earlier in the day and in other parts of my body, so I assume it was augmentation.

I was also getting headaches / migraines (no history of headaches before) and my cholesterol (total along with LDL) increased dramatically while on it. There is some research showing that it does.

It appears to effect the liver in high doses.

I also found it affected my mood ... but I’m not sure how much of that was the lack of sleep!

Also it’s expensive and there was a huge amount of variation batch to batch.

I straight out switched to Buprenophine (thanks to Shumbah on this forum) which has been working really, really well. I’m consistently getting around 8 or 9 hours sleep on it. You can see my posts on that. I just hope it continues!

Erika13 Me too! My pain Doctor was more than happy to try buprenorphine aka, Belbuca. The cost is high but it has changed my life. All of the pain relief without feeling weird or out of it. So grateful.

That's fantastic! What dose are you on? Are you taking it sublingually or the patch?

It's (buprenorphine) actually very inexpensive here ($5 per month) under the Japanese insurance system. (It was the Kratom that was expensive! )

Yes me too .. so grateful that it works so well!

in reply to DicCarlson

I used it for about a year daily and now I use it monthly or bi-monthly depending on pain/RLS.

I've yet to notice any negative effects (other than taste) and certainly not doing the damage that Mirapexin and the like were doing to me. I assume like all substances some will be more susceptible to side-effects than others and I am sure this is in part due to incorrect dosage.

I buy mine from one place only and the quality is always the same, well there has been no change that I have noticed.

Like all drugs tolerance will be an issue and if people don;t take the minimum amount of Kratom they will need higher doses and increase the likelihood of side-effects. The side-effects as noted my DicCarlson are the same with opiates and I find they are readily apparent in the higher doses.

I am currently on 40mg of Oxycodone twice a day with 300mg Lyrica in evening also. I still find most days I need something more to ease the pain and restlessness using cannabis to fill that gap, saving my Kratom for the proverbial rainy day as much as possible (plus it isn't nice to take).

Like anything any of us ingests - let it be coke, coffee or Crack Cocaine - we need to know not only what it does to the body but what it does to OUR bodies. We are all different and respond in different ways. ALways start really low and work your way up until relief is found. It will save money and minimise any negative side-effects.

Wow, 80 mg of oxycodone is huge! I was able to get relief from just 10 mg of oxycodone but couldn't find any docs to write me a long term Rx for any narcotic. So I tired Kratom and have been using it for almost 4 years now. I was up to 56 g Kratom (dry weight). But I always wanted to dump it if I could. Well it just happened two days ago. I found a doctor that was willing to write me a Rx for Buprenorphine. I've only used it for two days so can't say much other than it seems to work. We are titrating up the dose trying to find the minimum effective dose. But after 36 hours without Kratom, I started to have withdrawal symptoms like achy tremors in both arms. So I'm going to need to wean off the Kratom before I know exactly how well the Buprenorphine works for me. The problems I found with Kratom are 1) high price, 2) inconsistent potency between batches - some quite strong while others in the same strain are weak, 3) tolerance comes rather quickly in my opinion. You get to a point where the effective dose equals the toxic dose and you get dizzy and you just feel miserable that way. It's very difficult to get up and walk to the bathroom. The lethal dose can't be far off. 4) It takes way too much water to get down the necessary number of capsules and quite a bit of water if you make a paste. That means I'm up every night several times just to pee! 5) The Kratom I've bought is not clean. I've found hairs in almost all batches. That makes me wonder what else is in there?

Kratom works but I don't see it as a long term solution and I don't think it's safe. Ask your doctor for Buprenorphine. There are others on this site that are having great success with this solution.

Hi Minden. I used to use Oxycodone to manage my RLS (25 mg/day) and was able to drop it off entirely in one fell swoop when I switched to kratom, and with no withdrawal symptoms.

Having used kratom for several years, I would offer several suggestions. First, find a source that sells only pure kratom and that preferably uses third-party labs to test each batch for salmonella, pesticides, contaminants, etc. .

Second, experiment to determine the least amount of kratom that will mitigate your RLS symptoms, and stay with that. Like so many things about RLS, that level may be quite different for different people who all have different metabolisms, body chemistry sensitivities, etc. For example, I was able to take 25 mg of Oxycodone a day for two years. My wife, who had to undergo major surgery, couldn’t tolerate one dose of 3 mg.

Third, rotate the strains of kratom that you take. As you probably know, there are many strains, some slow (they’ll be slightly sedating), some medium, and some fast (they’ll act more like espresso and energize you). I’ve had the best success with the slow strains. I wish I had known several years ago when I started that I should rotate the strains, as that can help prevent the development of tolerance. Ideally, rotating seven strains - one for each day of the week - should help prevent tolerance, or at least slow it down.

The only side effects from kratom that I’ve experienced are (1) some mild constipation (which in my experience has been a side effect of every substance I’ve used to mitigate RLS), and I’ve been able to easily control that with dried fruit and other natural substances, and (2) slightly dampened libido (which I’ve found can be helped with a bit of dried beet powder that is high in nitric oxide).

I hope this is helpful. Best wishes for a smooth journey.

Doug

I have been using kratom for rls for over 2 years now with amazing success. Just be careful not to use too much. The best thing to do is not take it every night, but if you have rls every night like me, you may have to. I was up to 2 heaping teaspoons per night but then cut that down so that I am only taking 3/4 tsp/night and it is still keeping away the rls demons. I had to cut down because I am planning on travelling to locations where it is illegal to possess kratom, so I can't show up with a huge bottle of kratom capsules.

Yes! Two of my sons were able to get of opiates by using kratom. I've differed for 15 years with RLS. I'm talking going to the emergency room. They gave me atavan which did nothing. I've taken mirapex for years with little relief. One night after nearly 5 hours of agony my son begged me to try kratom. IT WORKED! all symptoms gone in 30 minutes. Yes yes yes try it. 2 to 3 teaspoons in a water bottle of orange juice. Good luck!
