RLS Relief

I have restless legs too. I have read many messages on here. I feel for you. I am on a 1 mg tablet of Ropinirole & 2 - 5 mg Flexeril tablets before bedtime. I find that helps me at night. I'm on the Flexeril because I couldn't relax at night enough to to sleep. But, if I forget & eat something that has Nightshades in it I will definitely have more trouble with restless legs that nite. So, I will eat them earlier around 3 or 4:00 pm. My main issues are with tomatoes & red sauce. I try to eat tomatoes at lunch. Now, I'm avoiding the red sauce. Here is the link to my Blog for the list of nightshades. I hope I can help others to learn about Nightshades - to get the relief you need to sleep & get the rest you need at night. toeveryflareisaseason.com

What are nightshades

Nightshades are tomatoes, white & red potatoes, red sauces, red spices, eggplants, okra, goji berries, red & green peppers, pimentos, dried table pepper, & tobacco. Red spices include paprika, Cayenne pepper, & red pepper flakes. Nicotine will increase RLS. Caffeine will cause restless legs. Also, it might keep you up at night. This includes chocolate, soda, tea, & coffee. This doesn't mean you have to give these things up just have a cutoff time say maybe 4 or 5:00 pm. If the doesn't work, go earlier. That's what I do. Of course, with my fibromyalgia, I can't have caffeine anyway. The caffeine cause me flares. Let me know if you want to know anything else. All the information is on my Blog.

toeveryflareisaseason.com but I don't know if the link works from here.

It’s worth saying here that nothing is certain....I am one of those people who aren’t affected by caffeine (or the other things you mention) in fact caffeine usually helps to settle my legs. I know I’m not alone

Yes I do, why do you say that?!

Ok, so maybe there's the difference? I have fibromyalgia & I'm very sensitive to Nightshades including the caffeine which causes the painful Fibro flares. And yes we are all different. But, I do believe Doctors don't know enough about restless legs to help us. Friends, I didn't come on here as a know it all. I was trying to offer Solutions as help; that's all. So many run to the doctors to get on medications & that's not my way of doing things. I'm trying to get off my meds & do things as naturally as possible. Just trying to help..

We are all different! What works for you, lynnmcguire24, may mot work for others. Please keep that in mind. The search to find a somewhat or fairly effective treatment for RLS is different for all of us. All te suggestions given on this forum are just options.

I am saying the same as lapsedrunner, not everyone will have the same reaction to the nightshades as you do, I drink coffee in the night which i find can actually help my RLS, and other members on here have found the same. Chocolate, soda, tea or even nicotine also does not make my RLS worse. In fact there are no foods that affect my RLS, the only thing i keep away from is alcohol, as i have found that can keep me awake all night with RLS. And yes i do have RLS .
