RLS - meds

Hello, I have reached the point where Lyrica and Mirapex don't seem to be working for me as well - I take 2 of each every day. My worst period of time is between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. Sometimes the meds work just fine, the other nights it is atrocious until either my meds start working or I pass out. Saturday I was in agony from 7 p.m. until I fell asleep at 5 a.m. Sunday morning. I spent all day still in pain probably because of the left over pain from the evening before.

What does everyone else take? My province is banning the use of all narcotics, including Oxy so those are not options.

Thank you for your suggestions. I see my Dr. shortly and she isn't sure what else to prescribe that might help me.

Damn they are banning Oxy for people that need it - smart stuff those people have in their heads!! Its licensed in the UK under the name Targinact!

Are you on the max dose of the Lyrica? Could be worth increasing that, (I am not a fan of Mirapex after terrible side effects that still haunt me years later).

Could you be begining to augment on the DA? If you are on a high dose and things are worsening it could be that. Here is a great link with all the info you'll need on augmentation:

I would also recommend looking at your diet, loads of us on here have gained much relief via gentle iron or cutting out alcohol, caffeine, dairy and/or gluten. I have had great results from altering my diet and highly recommend a dairy and gluten free approach with minimal caffeine and alcohol.

Non prescribed drug options include cannabis and Kratom both of which many on here use with benefit. Obviously as with all drugs you need to research and understand all the risks as well as benefits before using them with possibly the addition of legal sanctions depending on your state.

Hope that points you in the right direction.

+all Raffs has said.

Also maybe look at triggers-- medications such as antihistamines and antidepressants. Foods such as alcohol, sweeteners, all processed foods, msg in all its forms-- flavourings and enhancers, and so much more.

Get your ferritin checked- should be at least 100.

Also try magnesium citrate- about 100mg or so before bed- but 2 hrs apart from other meds.

Good luck.

I to take Lyrica Twix’s a day and Requipt and I have been on Lyrica for probably going on 7 years and Requipt for around 4 and mine has gotten unbearable I even have it during the day now but I’m also not sure if this new medication I started for anxiety called buspirone is causing it to flare up day and night but the best of luck to you.

Sound like you are both in augmentation as Raffs and Madlegs have said.

Nothing will improve until you come off the requip and the mirapex. This will be incredibly hard and you will need the support of your doctor and the help of something like Tramadol. It must be done slowly. Read up all you can and educate yourself and then your doctor. Good place to start below.

Other drugs will not have any effect until several weeks after the last dopamine drug has left your system.

You will have to be really strong - many of us have done this and can support you.

Thank you so much for your input and link for me to learn. I did gradually take myself off my Buspirone because it was a new medication and had recently been increased for about a week and I didn’t notice a much better improvement since I discontinued it, now that I know I have to let Dr know lol. Still have my rls ir the other one that I really never heard of but did sound a lot more like me than RLS the Augmentation lol. But thank you.

I hope that they can change your anxiety medication and help make things better. My problem has been starting earlier in the day also, it used to start at 7 p.m. but can now start before 4.

Yes and I thought this was supposed to be a night time thing but clearlyit's not but at least I know I'm not crazy 😉 but I had to be taken of my clonazepam because of the new laws with not being able to take 2 controlled so that's why I was put on the Buspirone which clearly made my rls worse so not to much more to take for my anxiety because certain meds I can't take and the others I can't take because of interactions with my 2 BP pills . And I take Narco because I have bulging herniated disc . Maybe I can ask Dr to up my Ropinirole since I think I'm on a low dose of 0.05 ? But it's now 2:37 am so I'm gonna try to close my eyes and get some sleep. Good night everyone

Go to the rls foundation website and check if there’s a specialist in your area I did and I’m very impressed with his rls knowledge

There is one about 7 hours from where I live. I plan to talk to my Dr. about it on Monday.

Well, she upped the mirapex and felt that I didn't need to see the specialist. I see her again in August. I will once again bring the name of the specialist. If I see him it must be before the snow flies - I don't like to drive in snow storms any more.
