When, for whatever reason, you don't take your rls med before going to bed and wake up in the middle of the night going nuts. How long then after taking taking your med does it take to work??

I hate it when that happens! I think it depends on the medicine. When I was on Pramipexole I felt a difference within 30 minutes to an hour. It takes 2-3 hours for my current medication (Neupro), though.

It depends on the meds. Dopamine agonists take about an hour to work if you have missed a dose. Opioids also about an hour.

What meds are you taking?

It takes about an hour with my opoids too, but if I get up and wander around (which I usually do - cold in the winter though, getting out of a warm bed) it's only 20 - 25 minutes.

One and a half hours for me on Pramipexole.

I'm taking Pramipexole now and Tormid seems to be closest to my experience.

I've read, and it's my experience that once an RLS "attack" starts, Pramipexole is unlikely to stop it.

Certainly once the attack has really established itself you don't stand a chance so

a) Take it as soon as you remember you've forgotten it.

b) Take it anyway, that in itself won't do any harm

What you need to avoid is -

a) Thinking you've forgotten it when you haven't and take it again, which you might think is unlikely, but I managed it once

b) Take more than normal thinking that might stop it.

To avoid all this what I've found helpful is -

a) set an alarm on your phone when you're due to take it.

b) get one of those pill boxes that has separate and labelled compartments for every day.

c) When going abroad, take a supply greater than you should need for the time you're away. Take the whole supply on your person, not in luggage.

d) marry someone who religiously reminds you to take it.

I've found d) particularly successful for the last 3 years.

Thanks. It didn't really go away but kind of eased off a little. What I really hate is that when I have a bad night like that my next day is ruined. Your suggested remedies are good. The marriage thing might be hard to accomplish. I've moved out into God's country and the pickings are very very few.

Hi Woody4. I really dont the answer to that one - Have you asked your GP that one -I have epilepsy & I know that if I dont take it on an evening then the electrodes in my brain will react causing me to have a fit - so I make sure I take them religiously

I take 6.25 mg of methadone per night Along with one marijuana brownie. This combo will get me between 6 to 8 hours of ok sleep. If I do the methadone only without the brownie I might get four hours sleep .

I have forgotten to take the methadone a couple of times and it takes close to two hours before it’s back into my system and I can sleep again.
