I am going travelling for a few months . I take 100mg of Gabapentin nightly for rls. It is a controlled substance in the UK and I can't get a prescription for more than 6 weeks worth of the med. I am stopping first in the US. My question is can I buy Gabapentin over the counter in the US. Does it come under brand names? Thanks

NO

Where will you be when you need a refill - what city? Perhaps I can give you the name of a doctor you could see and you could take a letter from your current doctor explaining the situation, It is a controlled medicine here too.

I’m wondering if a visit to an urgent care would help? I know they prescribed some drugs but not others.

They might. But if you find out they won't, post back here with your location and I may be able to give you the name of a doctor and be sure to bring a letter from your doctor.

I'm going to be in hawaii on oahu. My brother lives there so I think I'll ask him to check with his dr before I arrive. Thanks for all the help. The Internet kept giving me different answers.

You could see if your doctor knows a doctor in the area that he could contact for a precription. Or get a letter from your doctor and try to get a prescription through a same day care clinic. I doubt that will be accepted as it is something drug seekers do try in order to get they steal letter head and prescription pads. In California it has to be electronically.

One plus is that Corriemax is taking a very tiny dose of gabapentin. If an abuser were going to try this trick, I can’t imagine they would ask for 100mg!

very true, but in the US there is paranoia about u usual prescription requests

I don’t know how long you will be away from home, but I wonder if your sympathetic doctor would increase your dose on the six week prescription, so you would actually have 12 weeks’ worth? Even 200mg/d is a very small dose.

I did ask and they are super strict here. 6 weeks was a concession. The max is 4 usually
