Hello all: I have not written on here for quite some time. During the past two months, we have learned a lot more about RLS suffering. Long story as short as I can make it: My husband went in for a routine colonoscopy. He had a reaction to the anesthesia. He was given a variety of anti nausea drugs, one and maybe two that should never be given to an RLS sufferer (we later learned). He had a SEVERE RLS episode in recovery while still under anesthesia. We are not clear exactly what else went wrong, but what did happen is after the severe RLS episode, he was given more drugs, and he ended up being in the hospital for almost one week. Meanwhile, we had a long awaited appointment with Dr. B, but had to reschedule because he could not make the 670 mile trip from where we live. He was released from the hospital one day before our flight to Los Angeles and he was very weak and still ill. He missed a total of three weeks of work, recovering two weeks at home. I emailed Dr. B when my husband was still in the hospital and told him the drugs he was given. Dr. B said I should get the list of medications off his website that indicates what drugs not to take and safe alternatives. I have done that, but obviously it was too late for this situation. We are now anxiously awaiting our appointment in early April with Dr. B. RLS continues to behave badly and affect life despite all the attempts so far. The experience he just had is something all of you should know about so you are sure that you are aware what drugs you must not have if you are in a medical situation, whether it is a routine procedure or a major surgery. I plan to write after our visit with Dr. B with what he suggests for RLS relief.

How awful for your hubby to go through all that. I know some of us know that the only anti-nausea med that should be given when having surgery is Zofran .I wonder what else he was given after surgery, Once he gets to see Dr. B then he should start to recover with whatever Dr. B suggests as his med plan.

Yes it was very distressing! He was given Zofran but it didn't calm the extreme nausea, so they gave him Phenergan and possibly Reglan, as well as Dilaudid and other things. I think the Phenergan and Reglan are both unacceptable.

Oh yes, the phenergan and Reglan are really no no's, I havent looked on Dr. B's website for a while, But he should have what meds to avoid like you have stated.

Glad to hear your husband is better now. What a nightmare. Would you tell us what drugs your husband was given? May we know Dr B’s web address so we can all look at it please?

Thanks for sharing your experiences - I have also heard that anti-histamines are likely to cause RLS flare ups. The more knowledge that is shared the more chance we have to manage the condition. Best of luck to you and your husband.
