I’ve e found a trigger which as far as I know hasn’t been mentioned here before.
In spite of taking magnesium and tramadol daily I was getting breakthrough rls, some nights wosre than others.
A couple of weeks ago I set all my digital devices, - phone, ipad and laptop - to ‘nightmode’, it takes out the blue light. I’ve set it to run all day as well as during the night, and I’m getting a good nights sleep, with very little rls. Apparently the blue light from these devices affects the melatonin.
I don’t think we can ever totally get rid of rls once we have it, but this seems to be helping me, and it costs nothing to try. It takes a bit of getting usd to the yellowish screen, but it’s really worth giving it a try. There’s nothing to lose

I've had nighttime settings on my tablet for a long time but I am going to give this a try for the daytime too. As you say, costs nothing and will not do any harm.
I have my ipad set to "nightmode" at night only; I never thought of doing that during the daytime as well. Will give it a try; thanks!
Its certainly worth a try but I have had RLS for a lot longer than I have had a mobile phone!! I'll get advice from one (or more) of my daughters on what to do!
I switch everything off at night but don't think it's my phone or tablet that affect my RLS as I started RLS in the 1970s. Think it's connected with a vitamin or mineral deficiency but still working on that idea. No easy solution but folic acid helping. More research needed.
I use f.lux on my apple devices to change to warm light at night. Also worth getting rid of those white LED lights. I believe you can now get LEDS in warmer colours and warm light in halogen. Blue light surpasses melatonin.
I covered up my alarm clock (which I have set to a classical music station so i don't have that jolt of the regular alarm) so it doesn't shine that blue light while we are sleeping. Don't know what time it is, unless going into the bathroom, but it is much better without the light in the bedroom.
