I'm in my 80s and have had RLS from time to time. During one very bad period I found I got relief from Codeine, in the form of dispersible Solpadeine. Two at night.

Yes, codeine is very helpful

I`d be happy to try that but I`m worried about side effects & addiction.

Give it the `3 days' trial. I must confess I took it for much longer - afraid to go back to the hellish nights - I then ran out over one weekend, and simply gave it up without any problem. Purely subjective though...

That’s one thing that gives me relief from it too....So far I have tried all the other drugs the doctor gave me with no help apart from Amitriptyline which has been a god send.....One at night and I have been a few months without a breakthrough !!!!

Pleased to hear that Amitriptyline works for you. For most RLS sufferers it makes symptoms much worse. It is actually listed as one of the medications to avoid on the RLS-UK website rls-uk.org/treatment/
