Stiff legs

I frequently have stiff legs with tight muscles. This is usually after I have been out and about but can be when I get up. I know that this can be indicative of Parkinsons Disease but I wondered whether other people with RLS also had the irritation of stiff legs to add to all the other irritations!

Hello! No personal experience, but can I ask something? Does it only happen when it’s cold out?

No. I’m sorry to say it happens all the time. My neurologist has sent me for a Nuclear Brian scan and another MRI. I think he suspects PD. Never mind though- the rain has stopped!

I am so sorry to hear this martino!

Let us hope for the best with the testing!

Take care,

Jessica

If you're supposed to be scanned to diagnose Parkinson, are you taking a dopamine agonist? To my knowledge, you can't scan for Parkinson while taking those, you would need to wean off of those first.

That's interesting and I agree. I use a 2mg Neupro patch so I suppose it could affect the scan.

If this is stiffness plus RLS which comes on after, say, a long walk then I find taking a rehydration formula in warm water helps, it works for me. The rehydration formula comes in sachets and acts to restore the sodium:potassium ratio in the body. These sachets are available from Boots (own brand) in the UK and as Dioralyte in other pharmacies.

I find that if I don't do some leg stretches my RLS starts earlier in the day and I may have to do them at night,

Yes, this has started happening to me! I have had no tests for it. But recently moved to a smaller apartment with less exercise. I am 76 but fit. I just thought it was due to less moving around. Good Lord - what next ??

I suffer from Small Fibre Neuropathy as well as RLS and asked SFN people the same question. Quite a number have responded that they can identify with this stiff leg problem so that could be the cause of stiff legs. If your stiff legs are causing you concern it could be worth seeking medical advice.

I have tried walking a bit more, though it's difficult with a hectic schedule and holiday events, but am thinking I notice a slight lessening of the stiffness. However I goofed and had a lot of sugar at a party tonight, and couldn't believe how much worse my rls got when I arrived home and settled down! No more cookies!

Thanks
