Refused iron infusion

I have been told now by my G.P that I shall be unable (at the moment) to have an iron infusion. She wants me to start on Pregabilin. Does anyone kmow if its O.K. to take this drug with Tramadol and has anyone found that it makes you put on weight. Thanks

I’ve been on it a couple of months with no problem. I take 150mg at night. I started with 50, then 100 the following night, then 150 a few nights later. I find this ok but I think several people on here supplement it with something like Tramadol but check with your doctor first.

I too was worried about gaining weight but I think because I was aware of it I’ve worked hard to keep it off. Maybe put a couple of pounds on.

And I’m more than prepared to put up with this for a good nights sleep. How long it will last I don’t know, I try not to look too far ahead!

Like Pam34 I am on Pregabalin (150 g at 6pm) and Tramadol (100g extended release at 6pm). If the RLS breaks through during the night, I take 50 g of the Pregabalin and 50 g of Tramadol. So far, so good (I’ve been on it for 6 months). I was aware of the weight gain possibility, so have been careful - no weight gain so far but I have felt more hungry than before.

Other than being hungry, I have had no side effects.

I hope this helps.

I think you mean mg (milligrams), not g (grams), right?

Don't know about interaction with Tramadol but no problem with Oxynorm pain killer. I didn't get on with Pregabilin but is drug of choice by stroke consultants. Why iron infusion? Are you suffering from Iron overload disorder ( Haemochromatosis) where the RLS has depleted your Ferretin level below 100? If yes Pregabilin has no relationship to your Ferretin level!

Hope that helps Sleek Cat

My ferritin level is below 100 (67) and I have heard that recent research suggests iron infusions may help RLS. My G.P. said she could not advise and infusion and offered Pregabilin instead Thanks for your reply X

See another GP but better still get local stroke team referral! 67 is on the way to be anaemic! You can go to Stroke Team or whoever gave you a the diagnosis of RLS. Haemochromatosis.UK. can give you evidence, or better still go for advice on rls-uk.org There is a section on this there, which will give you the written evidence that RLS should not let Ferretin go below 100. Then if you cannot go to another GP, you have something to show in writing. It's very specialised (RLS) & poor GP's can't know all illnesses. Sorry I can't do more to help you but it needs sorting out. Good luck Sleek Cat.
