I have been on Neupro 3mg for about 6 years which has helped. I have been battling with Chronic Pain due to End Stage Osteoarthritis (bone on bone) in both my feet and ankles. I recently started using Medical Marijuana to help with the extreme pain , but I have noticed that my RLS symptoms have come back (not fully) especially after I have fallen asleep. I smoke about 1 to 2 hours before bedtime. My question is to anyone that has the same problems.

There may not be an association between the cannabis and the worsening. We know cannabis helps with all forms of pain, RLS being one of them.

But at 3mg Neupro you may just be augmenting. 3mg is the maximum recommended dose, and it is unusual to augment so fast, but it is not completely impossible.

Could you first try another cannabis strain?

Also, your smoking will only last for two or three hours - have you tried edibles, which last a lot longer in the system?

If that does not help, would your doctor permit an opioid?

I've had RLS symptoms become worse from Marijuana - for me it was extremely dependent on the strain of Marijuana used : most made my RLS better, but some made it significantly worse! For me, the strains with high THC content are the worst, while low THC, high CBD strains, which are more sedating, helped.

It would be unusual to see a post suggesting cannabis worsened rls. More commonly it either helps or makes no impact. It could relate to the strain or be coincidence. I hope your problems resolve satisfactorily.

It could possibly be Augmentation after 6 years on the highest dose of Neupro. If you were previously on another dopamine agonist like Mirapex or Requip, then risk of Augmentation is higher.

As others have suggested, cannabis normally helps but try changing to a sedating, low THC strain.

If that doesn’t help, keep a record of when and how your RLS plays up. Take the info to your doctor/ neurologist and you may have to get off the Neupro and onto alternative meds.

I guess that I am not as educated as a lot of you who post here... But I'm afraid that I don't know what your are talking about when you say Augmentation.

I use to take Carbidopa/Levadopa tablets for about 5 years and then they stopped working and I went to see a Neurologist and he put me on the NeuproPatch with no testing or anything. It does help

But since I start the cannabis I noticed that the symptoms are coming back when I am about 1/2 to 1 hour into sleep. I get up and about 1 hour later I am able to go back to bed.

It's hard for me to seek help because I am unemployed and have no health insurance at this time I am waiting be be approved for Medical Disability. That's why I use the marijuana for pain during the day which is only CBD no THC. And in the evening I have a THC one with some CBD.

I will maybe try a higher THC in the evening.

Sorry about rambling...
