I was diagnosed 4 years ago with RLS. In April I had a replacement hip and happily since then have had no symptoms and am sleeping well at last. Fingers crossed. ..

What painkillers are you on post op?

he says it has been 4 yrs. :) So, do not think the post op meds would count at this point. Jude666, are you on any meds for anything? Long may it last! Very unusual, though.

The hip replacement was in April. Though I doubt post op opiates would be allowed for that long. Just a possibility!🤗

I am very very happy for you! Maybe your RLS wasn’t idiopathic, meaning the ‘pure’ condition and not a result of something else. Maybe it was resulting from your hip - and maybe associated spine - problems. Hopefully it stays away forever.

This just goes to show how different we all are. I had a total hip replacement in January which made my RLS 100% worse. I was in hospital for three weeks and I would walk the floors of the hospital at night. In the end I gave in to a taking a Dopamine Agonist, even though I know that augmentation will eventually catch up with me. Glad it worked for you though.

I too had hip replacement surgery, about 4/5 years now. (Because I'm taking Warfarin I was in hospital a week before replacing it with something else). As is the norm, they got me up to walk on it the next morning. The replacement was on the left, but walking up the corridor the morning after the op, the excruciating pain in my right leg forbade any further walking. It took me a while to realise what the pain was ...RLS pain. Hip pain, what hip. The orthopaedic surgeon had taken it upon himself to decrease by Madopar intake over the last week by half. Once I was administered the correct dosage, after a few days I was able to feel the hip pain. Why a bone doctor would fiddle around with brain medication is beyond me.

I'm sure we all imagine every now and then replacing everything from the hips down. I know I do when the symptoms are driving me made. Wonder if anybody else has had a similar experience of an operation having a positive effect on rls symptoms.

I hope it’s gone for good!! That is so awesome!
