Lovely bit of detective work young lady. The observation that in general, RLS appears to be an affliction of the later years is quite pertinent when you think about it. I had questioned whether it was a 20th century disease; now if you consider that prior to the 20th century the average life expectancy was dramatically lower, then it's quite possibly one of the explanations for the very low reporting of the symptoms. It looks as if the price of longevity may be a bit higher than we think.

I've had this condition since my late twenties, I'm not sure about this longevity comment, I believe that it can and will attack at will (so to speak), but well done on finding some info that implies they the condition has been know for some time. These things don't just decide to come into existance there's always a pre-cursor.

hi there sitting down writing this on a sunday evening ,my leg is going mad if i thought if i could stick a knife into it just now to stop it jumping i would ,tried to sit down to read but can,t fell so tired up half the night with my arms ,they have a crawly feeling up and down them and then they start to jump is there anyone can help me please cheers lass would love to talk to someone just like me!!!!!!

oh poor you, i dont get it in my arms, just my legs and lower back, but it must be awfull in your arms, my son gets it in his arms also.

Are you getting any treatment for it

hi there niah,i was feeling very sorry for myself yesterday 3 nights i was up and then sunday it gets you down sometimes. i am the only one in my family who has it thank goodness would,nt wish it on my worst enemy.i have it for about 20 years now ,although i have a great wee doctor at last who listened to me and has put me on adartrel 0.5 mg they have been a life saver most of the time,,thinking maybe could do with taking one more a day on 7 as it is.never had it in my back that can,t be much fun either

some people get it in their arms also, i know 2 friends and my son do, have you spoke to your doctor about increasing your meds ??

Hi Lass, i get it in the back of one shoulder blade sometimes... How can we help you..? Have you been to your doctor to ask for help....are you on any meds for it right now and if so what and how long have you been taking them....we need to know a bit more...

hi Elisse it is good to hear from you and Niah someone who knows what i,m talking about i am taking adartrel ,and they really help could,nt do without them.A new doctor we got tried them on me about 5 years ago and they work well .What about yourself whats your story how long have you suffered what meds do you take?????

ive had, Adartrell, Requip, and Neupro 24hr patch, now im using Mirapexin, this has been the best one for me so far, but now im having problems with it not working as good, and im on the highest dose now, where i go from here, i dont know, and my doctor is not much help lately

HI niah no not lately really hate to increase them anymore if i do i wonder how many i would be taking in 5 years time ,my body might get to used to them

yes you do have that problem, we get used to the meds and they stop working for us, my mum had rls, then me now my son has it, ive had it around 53 years now and counting !!, and its gets worse for us as we get older, nice eh, but try to not give in thats the best advice i can give you, you will get good advice and support on here, Elisse is good, she helped me a lot in the early years of being on the internet, and Nightdancer also

Hi Niah been to bed and back up again ,i take 4 pills at 10pm and i am ready for bed at 10.30 they make me very tired ,once i lay for a while either the legs or arms start so here i am on line hopefully they will so settle down and i can go back .You must have been young when it started with you 53 years is a long time ,thats why i don,t really want to increase my pills but the way this past two weeks have been going i might have to.Are you bothered all day or just at night ????

hi Lass, sometimes get it in the day, mostly its around 3-5 o clock if its going to start, it can go on for hours, but touch wood, im not doing bad today, you on 0.5mgs arent you ? maybe you need to up the dose a little, i know you dont want to , but maybe you will have to

yea maybe will give it a few more days yet,going to try and get some shut eye chat tomorrow hope you get a good nights sleep too

i didnt have a bad nite, but tonights not look good so far, but i can allways get the ironing done, ive started to save it now for bad nights :)

hi niah i save my ironing for my soaps if i sit to long they can start so i get up an do some ironing or go on line like i am now ,still could do worst
