Blood test for RLS
Hi Tom
And what blood test is that then? Ferritin levels check?
Mainly to check for diabetes. RLS can be due to a few things.
Please be more specific and stop ar$ing around. This is far too important an issue to mess around with pfaffy ideas and waffly information.
Thank you.
Why diabetes?? As far as I know, RLS isn't linked to diabetes.
That's what my doctor said. I'm having a blood test this morning. It's one of a few reasons for RLS i gather.
I've got a theory that rls is due to toxins released a gut bacteria, which could feed off sugar, so the test may reveal something.
I have had quite a lot including HIV and syphillis! These were all done to eliminate possibilities!
Uncontrolled high blood sugars in people with diabetes can cause nerve damage, and may lead to diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Damage to the nerves of the feet and lower leg from peripheral neuropathy is a contributor to restless leg syndrome. (Google, and my doctor... )
I googled it too. diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-com...
I expect looking for secondary causes like peripheral neuropathy which you often get in Diabetes. Also I presume Iron will be in there too. Can't really expect anyone to know what blood tests are for if they're not fully told. RLS info is a big learning curve!
I have peripheral neuropathy for another reason as well as familial RLS. Lots of options possible
Jeez, my youngest granddaughter has been diagnosed with diabetes she is just 6 yrs old, was 5 yrs old when she was diagnosed, She has type 1 diabetes. I HOPE she doesnt develop RLS. I have Primary RLS, so far neither of my adult children have shown any symptoms and none of my grandchildren have either.... YET.
Oh wow, poor thing! I don't have any personal experience with diabetes, but I know enough to know that type 1 is the worst. Can she understand the importance of wearing that blood sugar monitor around and all that? This is making me think of my 6-year-old niece and how innocent they are at that age!
Bless her heart!
She is a really brave little girl. knows how to check her bloods and can give herself her insulin with her mum watching. And me, her nanny, has had to learn too and work out carbs before she eats and do her insulin, had to learn for when i have her and her sister over night at mine. But they both are showing ME what to do. lol Its been a learning curve also for her school, she is the only one and they have also had to learn to look after her while she is in school. She has a pink heart shaped bag which carries all her stuff in it and goes everywhere she go's.
