I had them for a while for pain, I didn't realise at the time but they were making the legs worse, (oh for the days when it was only my legs). Didn't find them much good for the pain either :(

That said everyone is different and you might tolerate it. It wont take long to know if they aren't right for you! Plus, it will show your Dr you are willing to go with their treatment even though you had a good idea it wouldn't work, (hand ammo for when you want to push an avenue).

No harm to your Dr but at the very least (s)he is acting out of ignorance as the vast majority of antidepressants are troublesome for RLS sufferers, realistically speaking until one takes a drug we can't know for sure if it is harmless so the best anyone can say is they THINK or they SHOULD be OK - maybe I'm just a bit pedantic :).

Take care.

Hi

I haven't been on here for a very long time!! I take two amatripline along with a high dose of pramipexol and most of the time it works very well. Ironically not the last two days and nights which have been horrendous but I think that is more to do with what's going on in my had at the moment!! Try them for a couple of weeks, you can always stop again if they don't work or even make things worse.

Are you sure the amitriptyline isn't making things worse SteveT? You mention in another post about the RLS being bad even during the day when you lie down - could be the drugs!!

Hi raffs. Could be I suppose. Only fails once or twice a month having said that. I think augmentation is slowly kicking in as I have been on premipexole for 10 years now slowly going from half a tablet to five over that period.

Pramipexol augments the disease in my experience. You can tell its augmentation when the RLS kicks in during the day. And getting off of the drug is not easy. My advice, such as it is, would be to get off of that particular drug when you start noticing augmentation. Its really sad, because it was the one drug that really helped for a long while for me. I currently am on Lyrica, which has been wonderfull, but side effects include hunger and thus weight gain. I am also having success with CBD oil.

I didn’t check up on RLS uk site and took amitriptyline on dr’s advice. Wondered what had hit me and it was 3 or 4 nights before I realised and binned them! For me, a NO NO NO!!!

Raffs is on the money- listen to his advice and heed it.

Very good strategy and psychologically sound.

Try them and then you will know and be in a stronger position regards your Dr.

Good luck.

I take amitripline and find they help me get of to sleep, and I thought that's what it was suppose to do. I was told they were a relaxation tablet not a pain killer.

I took them and like a great many with RLS found they made my RLS 1000% worse. Definite no no.

Tried them was a disaster. Increased my RLS for sure and set off my mums after being free of RLS for a few years x
