Suffering in Spain

My recent post showed a website ricure.com. It should have read rlcure.com

The rl being restless legs! The site suggests that the problem is inflammation in the body and shows how to tackle it. I am trying to follow this regime but it is early days. Has anyone come across this before and tried it?

Its a site i am not keen on. As far as i know RLS has nothing to do with inflammation.

The experts seem to be saying that RLS isn't a one size fits all disease. The ideology isn't always the same for everyone and not everyone will respond the same to treatments.

Can anyone tell me where to find a simple explanation of what inflammation is? It seems to be something like a substance that flows around the body. I think I am looking at inflammation when I see a sore of some sort going red in the surrounding area But I think that I am looking at extra blood in the area around the damage site and I imagine the extra red cells furiously rebuilding a bit of me. However, its a word that seems to be accused of all sorts of ailments. In other words, I just dont understand what inflammation is.

Hi Graham, Dr John Bergman has an informative lecture on Youtube about Oxidation and Inflammation that I can recommend. Hope it helps

Thanks Neil I'll check it out.

Hi Peter-caribe, Plan on checking out the site later today. Thanks for the info. I am a strong believer in foods heavily influencing disease. There is a lot of literature out there (both pro and con-which is good) regarding inflammation in the body and the problems it can cause. Before I began reading on this subject, I was very sceptical, but what I now believe is the reason food plays such an important part in health is because it's where our bodies get the nutrients we need to stay or become healthy. Food, generations ago, provided this benefit. But now, with so much processed food, additives, preservatives, depleted soil, various medications, etc I believe we have to pay more attention to what we eat and where it comes from. Doctors frequently test the level of generalized inflammation in our bodies with a simple blood test called a "CRP" ( C-reactive protein). You might want to get one done, save the result, try eating anti-inflammatory foods for a while, and see your CRP result improve. I did. I would recommend checking online for lists of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods. I certainly don't have the answers but I've learned when I eat inflammatory foods (sugar, white flour, etc.) I don't feel well, When I avoid them health issues get better for me. Worth a try. Take care, burmag (Burma)

If you are in Spain get cannabis it works very well and is much less harmful than the prescribed drugs.

I'd doubt if its a cure but at least he's not charging for it. I'll take a look mind, thanks.

Hi Peter,

Yes, I'm experimenting with an anti-inflammation diet. It seems to be helping a bit but it's so difficult to be sure with such a fluctuating condition.. So far, I'm mainly drinking carrot juice ( when I went two days without it and my rls was worse), have switched to goats milk and am taking turmeric capsules. BUT I had a bad night last night. At 3am I was contemplating the unthinkable - to take another Ropinerole tablet - but I cleaned the kitchen instead.

I seem to be the odd one out here. Displacement therapies don't want work for me. I am like a bull in a China shop. I tried to clean the fridge last week but the movements in my arms and the constant head movements make it almost impossible to carry out anything.

Hi Elles5,

Couldn't help but notice you seem to have really bad RLS ( arms and head). What meds, if any, are you on?

Cleaning the fridge while movement isn't enough of a distraction, you need something that will command your attention.

Drumming is great.

Not only is it a distraction - takes a lot of focus in getting your limbs to move interdependently but also all limbs are moving bringing relief. For me that has restlessness over my whole body it gives relief better than pacing and contorting my torso/arms.

I have been dealing with this "rlscure" guy for a decade or more. He has false info on his web site, puts down the RLS Foundations, and has used quotes from doctors without their permission, etc. He also used to give "consults" and charged money for these over the phone, and has zero credentials to do this. When he started advertising the consultations, and I and others called him out on this, the offer of consultations disappeared from his web site, He has an agenda, and uses at least 3 different names. proceed at your own risk. Look at his blog page. He rails against the RLS-UK and the RLS US Foundation. To be real honest, it is high up on my wish list to get him off the internet. He was booted from this group, by the way, 3 years ago.

Hi, I agree that drumming is great when I get a RLS attack. For instance the bossa nova excercise makes me forget the legs for a long time. Cutting down alcohol in any form is also worth trying. Brgds! Ricardo

I’ve been using a lot of the suggestions from the rlcure site for about a year. I do feel inflammation is a big culprit in this and many other diseases and disorders. Everyone is different so some things worked and some didn’t. I’m better, but not cured yet. I’m still researching remedies and I just found this site and am getting more suggestions here.

Some of the things that really helped from that site were the magnesium supplement and potassium (which I get from coconut water). I can’t take calcium supplements because of kidney stones, but do try to eat/drink things w calcium. In addition I take l- theanine, B vitamins, Vit C, curcumin, Alpha lipoid Acid, quercetin...the list goes on... and all help. I also use a glutathione sublingual spray (Mimi’s) and that took me another good step away from the thrashing and pacing I did so frequently. I’m using a melatonin blend with 5Htp and other herbs along with Kava tea to help me go to sleep.

I have never taken any prescriptions for RLS and won’t. I take enough already for other issues (Type2 Diabetes, thyroid disease, blood clotting disorder) and I don’t want the side effects from what they want to give me for the RLS. Too scary.

I also have chronic pain from an injury and have taken opioids for too long to manage the pain. I want to get off of them but found that when I had to go off for some testing that my RLS became much worse. Apparently it was helping Mask the symptoms. I’m now looking for something to handle the pain while also looking to keep the RLS under what control I have now.

I don’t know if this has helped or confused you. If you want a list of what I take and amounts let me know.

Good luck in you walk toward wellness!

Thank you TMJ for your response. It is good to have a positive response instead of the many negative ones from self proclaimed experts.

My self treatment has so far helped. It has not cured the RLS completely, but my condition has certainly improved. I continue to tweak the treatment and am always looking to see if I can further improve.

Yes please, a list of what you take maybe useful and continue the good fight.

Best wishes
