Hello lovely people .

My eldest son works for a charity who house drug addicts, ex offenders and alcoholics . He was recently telling me about a group of service users who he referred to as the " Pregabbers " I asked him why he called them that and he said they all use a drug called Pregabelin to get high. I told him I take this for my restless legs and have never had any kind of high from taking it. I guess I don't take a high enough dose. Seems like those of us who take this have a drug with a street value. thejournal.ie/pregabalin-in...

The drug is being widely abused and has been for some years now. It is quite prevalent in the north of Ireland as there is a thriving black market in prescription drugs - many here misuse antidepressants even though you cannot get high like that! It's a right mess of a place.

A lot of drugs we use are open for misuse/abuse hence it being difficult to get proper treatment.

I went into a head shop a few years ago for a nosey and overheard people talking about taking Tramadol and how great it was - 'just one and my legs were wobbly.'

There is a huge difference in effects of drugs between people using a drug recreationally and those using it medicinally.

Likewise- I've never experienced any high from pregabalin or the oxycontin I take. Just goes to show we all react differently to drugs or maybe you need to take a higher dose.

I am quite frankly amazed to hear that. I can understand (just about) taking an opioid drug recreationally for the nice mellow state it induces but pregabalin!!! I cannot even begin to grasp what they get out of it. Are they all very fat? It seems to cause weight gain almost invariably.

I take tramadol and wonder what they are experiencing when I read about the so called high from the drug. Many of the treatments for RLS have a treet value

But I suppose those of us battling RLS are focussed on the condition we struggle with.someone mentioned mirapex I was on that for a short time.the unfortunate side affects were increased shopping and a 35pound weight gainin a few weeks which I am still trying to get rid of never varied all my life until that .also tried the relaxin pad which was a very short term relief and finally gave it to a fellow sufferer to try.has not let me know the outcome so far. This just shows how differently the various treatments evolve for everyone.

Not what you're looking for?
