I think there is a difference. When you can give the ferrous bisglycinate a try. Please take it on an empty stomach only ONCE a day about an hour before bed. For some provides relief that first night. Actually for a lot of people. 😄

The bisglycinate is gentler on the stomach, However, have you had your iron/ferritin level tested? It is not recommended to take iron for any reason if your iron is not low. Something as innocent sounding as iron can cause problems if you take it and your body does not need it. So, really you need to get the blood tests, iron serum and ferritin level first. Getting your iron up orally can be a slow process, but it is one thing to try, remembering that no one things works for everyone, which makes RLS difficult to treat as a neurologicial sleep disorder. I would LOVE it if iron was the ONE answer, but then we would have no need for all the support groups that exist. One good place to read about RLS and treatments is rlshelp.org and the RLS-UK Foundation , who's group this is, has a facebook page and also the web site.

Desperate, the finding that the brains (not the bodies) of RLS sufferers are ANEMIC is probably the single most important piece of the RLS puzzle. Iron is very likely THE whole puzzle. [Deleted by Kaarina (volunteer) - unhelpful comment] Iron is in a class by itself when it comes to RLS. Put the name "Bganim" in the search box. Like you she was taking iron in the form of ferrous sulfate twice a day. Per her description, it did nothing for her RLS. She switched to a night time dose of ferrous bisglycinate and her restless body was gone for the night. We need to figure this out. I don't know that we have anyone but ourselves to do so.

What if it is just inflammation? A generalized inflammation - vascular, digestive, obesity, excess alcohol, etc. CREATING the decreases in iron, and other RLS triggers. I use iron to eliminate RLS symptoms - now I take a large combination of anti-inflammatory supplements and try to adhere to an anti inflammatory diet.

I have been taking ferrous bisglycinate strictly "as needed" for several weeks now. I only take the 25mg dose after I've attempted to wait out the symptoms and let the RLS dissipate naturally. If 60 to 90 minutes go by, and symptoms are still severe, I take the dose of ferrous bisglcinate. Within approx 20 minutes of taking I start getting relief and before I know it I'm sleeping.

I take no other drugs. I'm on the average taking the dose once or twice a week. Never more than twice. i haven't had my iron levels checked yet and that is partly why I'm being cautious about the frequency. Thanks to this forum I have found something I can use to gain quick relief when I'm desperate.

Hi Eitheror,

I believe it can be purchased via Amazon or a health store.

The type I'm taking is called Gentle Iron (Iron Bisglycinate) and is produced by Solgar. They are 25 MG pills. I believe I purchased my bottle through Amazon.
