And again.

Well, here I am again. 2:30 and pacing the floors again. I took my Gabapentin at 7 and 10:30 as usual and the legs started flipping out after 2 am. Iron infusion, Gabapentin, Magnesium - all the right stuff and here is my miserable me, walking around like it's daytime.

Never been so frustrated in my life.

Are you taking the Gaba and magnesium a few hours apart?

Magnesium oxide is not as good as mg citrate.

The other thing to look at is something that might have triggered it.

Hope you find relief soon.

Thanks; I took the magnesium at bedtime; the same time as the 300mg Gabapentin. If I'm taking 600 mg at 7 pm and 300 mg at 10:15 - 10:30; when do you think I should take the magnesium?

Basically magnesium interferes with the absorption of the Gaba. It needs to be taken 3hrs apart.

You could stop taking magnesium , and see does that affect things. Or take it at 4pm.

Which type of mg is it ?

Good luck.

I went to the Vitamin Shoppe and bought Magnesium Citrate.

I took 400 mg. with my lunch and here I am at almost 2 am; not tired at all....Can't wait til I see my doctor next Monday.

That's incredibly frustrating for you-(and us!) I just hope that you get some answers from John Hopkins.

All the best in the mean time.

Have you access to Diazepam or such like - just for occasional use to give you a rest?

Cannabis or Kratom might also give relief- medical only.

I occasionally take lorazepam (Ativan) but it didn't help last night. Cannabis is still illegal in 48 states of the US and I don't know what Kratom is.

Is the time of day important for magnesium? Perhaps you should take it in the morning?

I'm heading to the vitamin store shortly.

Took it today with my noon meal and I am still awake at almost 2:00 am.

Don't know how to fix this problem...

Fortunately for me, I am almost 65 years old and have never had any issues with my stomach or bowels. I see the RLS specialist (one of the few in the US) a week from today & will show him this article.

Thanks

in reply tomarsha2306

Hi Grammie, since you're seeing this specialist, would you be kind enough to share what you find out with the rest of us?

Thanks!

My doctor is Dr. Christopher Early at John Hopkins Hospital. He is a leading specialist in RLS in the United States. You can look him up & see videos of his RLS research (look up his video presentations on you tube). He firmly believes that the lack of iron crossing your brain (may be wording this wrong - getting technical terms are not my best trait) is a major, major cause of RLS. In people who do not have RLS, the iron/ferritin levels do not have to be as high as those without RLS. In those of us with RLS, those levels must exceed 100. Mine was 70.

He also did tell me that sugar plays big role in making RLS worse if you already have it.

See if you can find my previous posts on this site.

in reply tomarsha2306

Thanks alot! I was going to head out there myself but my insurance doesn't cover. I'm currently on an iron supplementation regimen to get up past 100. Going to go get my ferritin checked in a couple months to see if I've succeeded. All the best!! Staying together through this shit is the only way we're going to fix it!!!

Try the low fodmap diet, working wonders for me so far. Right leg is 90% calm. Left leg about 50%. Took about a week to notice results. Once I started getting results, I lost all desire to eat Garlic or onion or even milk chocolate ever again. Look into it my friend, it's worth a test.

my doc has told me that sugar has a bad affect on RLS. It has helped me to not eat sugar in the e evenings.
