Just weaned myself off Ropinirole. My GP has now prescribed Gabapentin Enacarbil, does anyone have any information on this medication, dosage's, side effects etc. Any info would be gratefully received, thanks.

All that info will be on the leaflet that can be found on the internet. Google "Horizant".

Basically it is a form of Gaba that is converted better by the stomach into the active ingredient, allowing for much lower dose and thus avoiding a lot of the detrimental side effects of high dose Gaba.

Your Dr is obviously up to date. Put him / her on your Christmas card list!

Sorry- that probably should read " Seasonal mid winter cardboard greeting missive" list. Mustn't get into PC hot water !

You're in good hands.😎

I have insomnia, as well as restless leg.

Horizant 600 mg will usually allow me to go to sleep at night but I awaken frequently and have to take something additional, such as Ambien or hydrocodone left over from previous surgery.

The Horizant has really helped the neuropathy in one foot. As my docs don't want to script a narcotic, I will soon have no supply of that drug. Last night, I started 1 mg Neupro patch in addition to the Horizant. I am hoping to keep it at 1 mg (I have used Neupro before and like the Horizant, it alone won't let me sleep).

Good luck with finding your own successful treatment.

this combination is used due to the poor absorption of gabapentin in the gi tract. enacarbil is essentially removed in the first passage through the liver giving free gabapentin to go in the system in a known dose and probably a higher dose than if you took it by mouth. hope this helps.
