Hi, I have never heard of Paroven being used. treat restless legs syndrome before. As far as I know it is used to treat fluid retention most commonly caused by venous insufficiency? Two completely different conditions so I am rather puzzled. However if it is helping you then thats all good! ! Weight gain can be a side effect of many medications I am afraid, I have the same problem with the Pregablin ( Lyrica ) that I take and it's very difficult to shift it when the meds are working against you, all you cab do is try to stick to a healthy diet (easier said than done I know )..Pipps x

I've had my first experience with RLs when I was 19 years old. I kept ir for myself for coupld of years.. thought the drs will laugh you know. . Now its such a common thing.

This med is for edema, or swelling, so seems to me it would help you lose water weight, not gain weight. And, as Pippins has said, NEVER have heard of that being used for RLS. How long have you been taking it, and how long have you had RLS.

Thank you you all for replying. . Its not really prescribed for RLs. But ive started using too much pexola 0.25mg 100 tabs a month. My dr then ptescribed The paroven 250. And it really works. Now i only use my pexola when in airoplane.....im exercising. . Eating healthy. . But the scale just are so stubborn.

Copy of what i've just read:

Paroven capsules contain oxerutins as the active ingredient, which belongs to a group of medicines which act on small blood vessels (systemic vasoprotectors). Paroven capsules stabilise the vascular wall, which lead to a reduction in the permeability of the vessels and subsequently to a diminution of swelling (oedema).

Paroven capsules relieve ankle swelling (oedema) due to chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). In patients with varicose veins and some other diseases of the leg veins, these small vessels have an excessive leakage which cause swelling of the ankles.

Paroven capsules also reduce this swelling and relieve the associated common symptoms such as aching, tired, heavy, swollen, painful and restless legs, pins and needles and night cramps.

To reduce swelling of legs and ankles.

Night cramps.

Restless legs.

Pins and needles

for swelling, so still water weight. What web site did you read this on? I know for years the "theory" has been around that veins have something to do with RLS, and it just is not so. They USED to think so, but after research that has been disproven, and 98% of all RLS experts will say veins are an old theory, so I suspect and hope that whatever web site you were on is behind the times a bit. ;) Vein issues are not RLS, nor do they cause RLS.

Yes, very old theory that veins are connected to having RLS.

😃it properbly true that its an old theory Elisse. For as my dr that prescribed the paroven for my RLS is indeed very old !😃... but because the pexola let me gain 40kg in less than 2 years.. he changed the meds to paroven. He also said like you that its for veins ....but that it will work for RLS, for a lot of timez thats the cause of RLS. And the meds work! So i'm happy .. but still struggling with weight .. but I cant find any side effects off weight gain in paroven 250. Sorry for taking so long to reply. Was in hospital.

I have never taken that med but there are a few out there that do make you gain weight . When I first started with RLS six yrs ago, my neurologist prescribed Gabapentin, I gained 25 lbs in a month and I couldn't understand what was happening. I studied all I could about this drug and found out that it did indeed cause weight gain. I got off immediately and within the first week dropped ten lbs., the rest went slower. Good luck.

Hi johannasaur if you went off the med you were on what did they put you on to be able to get the weight off again ?

Hi Mopsy, when I got off the gabapentin and started loosing the weight I was on TRAMADOL for something else and I realized that it was working even better than the Gabapentin, so again , I looked up if TRAMADOL worked for RLS, and it was confirmed that it did, along with other pain killers. The good part is that though it's considered an ipioid, it's a drug that causes little addiction and better yet, the least to produce augmentation. There are several people here that are on TRAMADOL like myself, but unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone just like all the meds. , you need to find the right one. TRAMADOL doesn't cause any side effects, not drastic ones, a bit of insomnia , and because of the insomnia you might feel a bit dragging the next day, but not a heavy head feeling. When I feel sleepy during the day I take a speed nap and Im Good to go. For me being on TRAMADOL has been a blessing, I've been on it for six years now and only have increased the dosage last year when the RLS started a bit earlier than usual. I take 50 mg pills, one at 5:30 pm and then another at 11:30 pm. If I keep my schedule right on time I forget I even have RLS. If I don't take it right on time, say a couple of hrs later, I have the risk of the RLS starting and then the meds take a bit longer to kick in. Give it a try, you have nothing to loose except the weight you gained. Good luck and let me know what you decided to do. I believe if you live in the UK, I think I heard some say their doctor won't prescribe TRAMADOL , if that's the case with your doctor, try another one that will help you at least to give it a try. Good luck.

Hi I am in NZ ,I do know some people on Tramadol will have a talk to my dr and see if I can try them ,,thank you ,nothing more depressing than not fitting into your cloths ,especially as it's not because of overeating but meds

For sure, I'm not an overweight person, eat little, so the gain was very unusual, and like you said, the clothes were becoming a problem. Let me know how it goes with the TRAMADOL when you try it. I hope you're lucky with it like me.
