hello - I’m wondering if anyone has tried / accessed the weight loss medication currently available ( in the UK I believe it is wegovy ) if so does any one know if it affects RLS symptoms?

As much as I don’t want to put even more chemicals into my body I am stuck between a rock and a hard place - since going onto pregabalin plus the combination of osteoarthritis, breaking my foot and then re- injuring my knee as I re- learnt to walk on my foot - I am now in the obese category and as much as I try to loose weight I don’t seem to be able to do it. However I need to loose weight in order to control the pain in my knee and to be able to do do enough moderate exercise to minimise my rls symptoms which are currently out of control.

Anyway I just wondered if any one had tried the wegovy injections ( or Ozempic although i’m not sure this is now available in the Uk) and if they had did it make their RLS worse - thank you

Some individuals have reported that wegovy temporarily worsened their RLS symptoms because weight loss drugs affect one's electrolyte balance. However increasing their intake of magnesium and potassium has helped some users return to their pre-wegovy baseline. And some users have found that RLS symptoms interfere with their sleep patterns after starting Wegovy. It is very expensive if not covered and has to be continued because if you stop it, your weight will come back.

Hi Sue, are you saying that once you’re on it you have to be on for life? It really does sound too risky for me - I think id rather plod along loosing a couple of pounds a month - however it is proving very difficult and it’s tempting to try to speed it up in some way.

Any other experiences / comments would be very welcome

That's my understanding. See goodrx.com/wegovy/what-happ.... Another study said that people who stopped gained 2/3 of their weight back within a year healthline.com/health-news/...

hi there , please do read The Leptin diet - not new but should be followed by everyone in my opinion ! Following your body’s rhythms of how it process fat (and knowing why the body holds on to it).

I combine this with eating foods low on the glycemic index. You can find a list of those foods online.

The two together have been a game changer for weight loss in our house !

No problem. The low GI element should effectively achieve what the drug would - managing insulin (as I understand it).
