Does meditation help?

Currently sat with my legs bent in bed trying to stop my legs kicking out. Forgot my med so it's waiting to take effect. Just wondered if there was something mediation that I could look to try and relax myself when the symptoms come on?

It is incredibly difficult to meditate with a bad attack of restless legs. First try stretches to ease the attacks while easing your mind into acceptance state. Lean into the 'fits' and accept them as part of a process- which also involves opening the mind to mindfulness - accepting everything that comes your way and not fighting it. RLS has very much a psychological /stress component. Eventually you may drift into a state of otherness- but it isn't easy .

Hooe this is of some help.

I've been meditation off and on for about 20 years. The one thing that will stop meditation quicker than anything else is RLS. It is the one thing that stops me.

As Madlegs1 says a mindfulness approach to it is better and at least slightly realistic but even though I know that my head keeps trying to escape the inescapable!!!!

You could try a guided walking meditation the guided bit distracts and the walking brings ease to the legs.

yes balfey, take a co co damol while you are waiting for meds to kick in. Some take tramadol (I think it's the same kind of painkiller) it works.

Well I must need lots of training because the more I tried to use meditation.to resist the urges of real the worse it made . Mi dfulness had no space lol. Ended up doing g the usual coping with ibuprofen gel until the med kicked in. It's weird because I knew I'd forgotten to take the med and thought ooh I'd gotten away with it but no...the familiar feeling of legs starting to tense awaiting a ghost fright, then like a kettle boiling before the meds kick in and the feeling of a bottle with the fizz being released when the meds start to work...Christ what a joke my legs are lol 😠
