That is in an airplane.😏 short flights of 2-3 hours are torture, but we are soon flying from Toronto, Canada to London England and I am dreading the long flight. I have booked a seat with extra legroom, but would appreciate any suggestions to make the flight more bearable.

Hi gretakmac

If you type 'long haul flights RLSUK' in the search box at the top of the page

there are about six past postings on the subject, some with quite a lot of replies, which may be helpful to you.

How helpful is your Dr? Maybe they could prescribe some strong opioids for the journey?

Maybe some benzodiazepines? If they aren't great for RLS you could maybe argue anxiety about the flight which would support the benzo route.

I don't envy you your journey - had a flight to the US earlier this year and it wasn't a pleasant thought but I used Kratom which gave me a settled flight - might be worth looking into.

Good luck

Have fun on your trip. I take TRAMADOL, 50mg tabs and since this drug works wonders for me I can travel long distance without any problems. I take it about 1/2 before boarding the flight so that I can be comfortable right from the beginning and if my trip is longer than six hrs which I think it will be, I take another six hrs later. I don't know what meds you're on but ask if you can add this low dose of TRAMADOL even if it's just for the trip.

I also use kratom, and it has made long flights possible for me. In fact, last week I flew from New York to Honolulu, a twelve hour flight. By doubling my usual dose of kratom (from 1 gram to 2 grams) and taking it every two to three hours, I was comfortable for almost the entire flight. I simply could not fly without it. It's a mild opioid you buy off the internet (many sites) and it is legal almost everywhere--in both England and Canada for sure.

Debating between Tramadol and Kratom ( which is legal in Canada).

What type of Kratom are you using?

Sitting still in any forum has been torture for me for a long time. I go back and forth from the Chicago area to The Phoenix vicinity. I can only tolerate the flight of 3 1/2 hrs. if I over medicate with opiates. I have an arrangement with my neurologist that he will give me 6 extra Vicodin. Three for going and 3 for coming. Normally I take only one and that is at bed time so I can sleep without the pain.

gretakmac,

I have the same fear. I always get an aisle seat so when it starts I can get up and walk. I take extra meds so I will be medicated enough that hopefully it won't start, but some times regardless of all my precautions i walk the aisles from Chicago To Phoenix, about 3 and1/2 hours in flight, but waiting and boarding and getting to my destination northwest of Phoenix, it takes 6 or 7 hours.

From Canada to europe must be panic time, even before you start, but you'll be in the air 8 or 9 hours. I stopped going to Europe about the time my RLS got bad. Good luck.

Based on research at the Stanford University School of Medicine, use of anti-anxiety meds for flying makes the problem worse. Each medicated flight increases the person's sensitivity to flying until the meds do nothing. With the sensitivity to flying having become, it can feel impossible to fly.

A better step is to teach the mind to regulate anxiety automatically when flying. I've put together a free app at fearofflying.com/app
