Hi Lonnie and welcome to the RLS community of HU.

No you cannot assume that natural equals safe. In fact natural just means (in most cases) effects unknown . Most synthetic drugs are relatively pure and the content of a particular tablet is likely to be a small number of well known chemicals. If you were to analyse most herbal (natural) preparations there are likely to be many hundreds or thousands even of chemicals whose effects cannot be said to be harmless because they simply have not been studied.

So synthetic drugs are highly regulated, and tested and still result in all sorts of side problems for some people. So how much more dangerous are natural drugs without any such testing and regulation.

There are many harmful natural chemicals that are well known too. Examples: Digitalis from foxgloves, used as a treatment in heart disease, as a beta blocker I think, poisonous if too much is eaten. Snake and spider venom. Botox. some Fungi, Alcohol and the best one yet tobaco. Last time I read about tobacco and how many chemicals may be found in tobacco smoke the count was up to about 5000. So leaving nicotine aside and a certain number of other well known things there is still a goodly amount of stuff to study in tobacco. But hey they're natural so that's fine. But not really though eh.

Another extreme example is that fish that is sort of popular in the far east. and which has to be very carefully prepared otherwise you're a deadun. Is it that pufferfish that when in danger puffs itself up so that it looks larger and so less safe to attack.

Even water can be dangerous, fatal even. Drinking too much water too quickly can result in kidney failure if I remember correctly.

Sometimes artificially made drugs are found to already exist in nature. It is speculated that many as yet unknown drugs may be found in the flora of the tropical rainforests and that this is yet another reason to avoid chopping them all down.

So no, natural does not mean safe. For naturally derived drugs to be declared safe they need to be tested along with laboratory derived drugs in just the same way with controls and double blind trials and regulation via prescriptions and all of that

Anyway hope your latest treatment continues successfully. I'd be interested to know what the full name is (Meth ?) and the "natural" one that you have found works too.

1 teaspoon 0f Tumeric,1 teaspoon ground Ginger, 1 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper, 3 teaspoons of Cinnemon Powder , 1 TABLESPOON OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR 1 TABLESPOON OF LEMONJUICE MIX. Sounds horrable? what does it tast like really?

Im sorry but rls is conected to the fact that your brain does not relise a certain chemical in your brain enough to tell your legs to rest i dont see how taking this would make your barin relise that chamical?

Why would you say no bananas, and the caps are a bit loud. ;) Bananas are one of the most commonly discussed and recommended fruits. I also want to know what meds you stopped. MOST RLSer's do not or cannot have that luxury and one should never stop meds without the help of your doctor. Severe or refractory RLS is not going to respond in the way you describe. BUT, if it works for you great. But , really need to know what meds you stopped and how did you stop them? "Meth something" does not sound like any RLS med that we would know about. It wold be nice to have the names of the drugs, just so we can see the big picture instead of half of the big picture. Like I said if you are happy, that is great, but also unusual. The caps make it seem like you are shouting, just a little hint for group and general posting

etiquette. ;) Glad you posted, but we have lots of questions, so hope you will answer some of them for us. But, back to the bananas, they have lots of potassium and are almost the "perfect food", so I am curious, please.

My best guess is that bananas are a high natural sugar or starchy when digested.. some diabetics stay clear of them for that reason and maybe the natural sugars are something that people think of as sugar in general.. guessing, as I once thought, XX K

That's tremendous. I am not really very keen on honey and I detest cinnamon but it might be worth forcing myself to try it, Still I suspect that the benefit from such a diet is attributable to the weight loss rather than from what appears to be a random choice of stuff. Anyway well done in either case.

The other curios thing is that you have shunned the humble banana. Some on the HU forum have found eating a couple prior to bedtime is successful against RLS. I seem to remember seeing quite a lot of posts on HU on this topic. May be difficult to find though.

The honey, apple cider are diuretics.

Tumeric, high in iron and magnesium plus anti-inflammatory. Maybe that's why India has a low incidence of RLS.
