Still Awake

5:30 am and still awake legs have slowed down to a Waltz now so by the time to get up it may be that my legs have all settled down ready for work in the afternoon shift. Ohh the joys of having RLS.

Joy indeed. I have been up for the past 2 hours. What a wretched condition this is.

Must be something in the air Blokie but I managed to drop off on living room floor !

Carpet, cushion and duvet , legs were okish actually just couldn't sleep, hope you do better tonight too!

I was also awake most of the night, i dont think my dog knew what i was doing up and down the stairs every 15-20mins. Last night was probably one of my worse for a long time. I think i dropped off around 3-30, then up again an hr later, then an hr later, the slept til 8-30. Oh poor you Blokie, i really do not know how people work after no sleep.

Hi Connie, in the wee small hours of the night when everything is quiet nothing seems worse than feeling tired with legs doing the Tango. You try and think of nice things to drift you off to sleep but its no good. So I do simperthise for you I know and can only hope that you get some rest in the nights to follow. Keep your chin up and pray that some day we all might get some relief and a decent nights sleep. Pleasent dreams. Blokie

Here Here!!

I mustn't mock as we've all had rotten times. From what a lot of you say I am lucky that I now have some control over my RLS (ruddy lower sticks!!)I did start finding some little ways of reducing the symptoms for a bit (i.e., an hour at night before trying these medicines and they still help to keep the jerks at bay 'til the pills kick in and work. One involves keeping my legs cooler. I found that sometimes only one leg would jerk and one way to curb it was to lay on my side with the jerking leg underneath and held down with the other leg. This then eventually reduced the sensations. If this didn't work OK, I give in and I had to get up.

One positive this was I could get away with kicking my husband having a legitimate excuse to prove it was not done on purpose! He was the one who also suffered with my RLS as he received the kicks and had to let me know the next day.

What I find frustrating is that our RLS all present in such different ways that we con't always give useful advise to others knowing it will have some good effect.

I,

first, 6 years after the original post, I hope you have found solutions to improve your comfort.

One of my solutions is, before going to bed, wet my legs with cold water, in bed I use a fan blowing on my legs all night (or even falling asleep by turning on the fan timer).

Hot climate in summer (Portugal) is the hardest time in year to my legs.

In case of despair I do squats,

slowly and force my legs muscles to contract intensely, 10 to 15 minutes helps a lot.

I still have to try riding a bicycle, but at the beginning of my crises, about 4 years ago, it worked.
