Don't know if this is related to RLS, but I have been getting a burning sensation in my left thumb. Do anyone else get this, or know what could be causing this.

Hi no have not heard of that symptom. Burning tends to be nerve pain, however my left foot( the infamous foot of mine ) does get burning sensations and sometimes my calf which does often respond to RLS meds.Mention it to your GP if it continues as could be neuropathy

Is it in the joint? It might be arthritis x

Did you have any blood flow studies on your legs Kim? Burning can be nerve pain, yes.. but there are more serious things that I would worry about.. Are you having some neuropathy going on? That's treated with Lyrica.. or gabapentin, sometimes antidepressants..there is the small chance of narrowing of your arteries or a vein disease..It doesn't cost money to have them take a Doppler to your limbs and do the blood pressure cuffs to see if there are some differences.

All of those things are treated so differently - please be advised that some statin drugs can make neuropathy much worse.. just a FYI...and yes, it's well documented..I just had this conversation with my doctor.. There is a list of drugs just as there is with RLS that make neuropathy worse.. some are common drugs.

From what my doctor friend said about any limb or extremity sensation or numbness, the problem is usually where the nerve exits the spine. As we age we compact downward and with that compaction the opening where the nerve exits the spine narrows. The narrowing compress the nerve and anything you think is in your thumb would be in your neck.

Burning pain suggests inflammation. You didn't supply information about where on your thumb it's hurting..is it the skin or does it feel like the joints, bones, nails? I would get that checked out if it doesn't disappear in a couple days.

Sorry for the late reply. Been in hospital. The pain I have in my thumb goes along the outside of the thumb from the wrist to the thumb tip.
