Is this too low, should I ask for supplements?
By the way, my GP said the result was normal before I asked for the actual result.#
Thanks.

The recommended level for rls is over 75.However many people see no improvement. Worth a try though as SOMETIMES it helps SOME people.
Its low for people who have RLS. it should be 50-100. I am glad you asked and did not just take what the doctor told you. Yes, ask your doctor for iron pills, explain to your gp that for someone with RLS its a low level. Taking the iron may or may not help with the RLS. But its worth trying You need to take them for 3 months then get your level checked again to see if it has risen. It can take months and months to get the level up. Not many people find taking iron helps, but you may be a lucky one.
I got the same response from my GP. Said I was normal and then found out it was 31. It should be over 75. Iron does help many people, but it requires mega-doses and months of treatment that many people cannot tolerate. Another option is iron transfusions, given at a hospital.
Taking iron causes constipation, thats the only side effects i got from them, and everyone does. You would need to eat lots of fibre to help with that, or take a mild laxative sometimes. You wouldnt get iron infusions here in the UK, not for RLS. And no taking iron didnt help me.
My GP prescribed me 200mg of Iron to take 3 times a day on an empty stomach.
Hopefully I will see a slight difference.
Good remember if it does help it can take a long time for the iron to build up.You might het constipated so take steps to combat that from the start of your iron meds, fingers crossed for you.Fid you get chance to listen to the Docs interview on you tube?
ELMAGO, also take Vit C with the iron pills to help the iron to absorb. Good luck with them....
