Anti sickness drug

I was at the AGM RLS UK on Saturday and it was mentioned there is only one anti sickness drug that does not make RLS worse. Unfortunately I did not write the name down. Does any one know what this drug is called.

Be glad if anyone can help.

Hi ,

I just borrowed this paragraph from another website, hope the names remind you.....

Anti-nausea drugs are used to reduce nausea, vomiting, motion sickness, and inner ear dizziness. Like antihistamines, they also block the brain’s dopamine receptors. These drugs include Comapzine, Dramamine, Phenergan and Reglan. Alternative drugs that may not worsen RLS symptoms include Zofran for nausea and Transderm Scop for motion sickness.

Thank you Miggles for your quick reply. My GP has given me Metoclopramide for nausea. I don't think I should take them because it says on the directions tell your Dr if you are taking dopaminergic medication. I am taking Mirapexin. He seemed to think that ok but as he knows little about RLS I am not so sure.

Mmm I get a little jaded with General Practitioners, I have had quite a few major mess ups with them, including one with a brain tumour so I tend the regard them as just another opinion perhaps a better informed one but that's not always the case. In the end its your body , your life and your decision.

So take a look at the web sites that compare medications and inform about possible reactions between drugs, print out stuff yo find , I then go ask a chemist, I am lucky I work in a hospital and can use the library and some of the more approachable senior staff.

Go tell him/her you are not happy with it and ask why there are warnings and why he says it isn't a problem, if you really want to by naughty ask for it in writing............cats and pigeons...lol

Any way good luck information is power. I'm off for a sleep to make up for last night.

Yes, have queried this with my GP and she said will be fine. Have looked it up on a bupa site and they say don't take it - so I won't. Thanks for your help Miggles.

The only one i know of that is RLS friendly, is called Motilium 10... You can buy that one OTC aswell...

I have RLS and due to a reaction with some of my meds (not associated with RLS) I have to take a Metoclopramide at night and sometimes during the day. I have had no ill effects while taking it if that helps.

If in doubt, have a word with your pharmacist.

Just goes to show how we all react differently to the meds that mostly say not to take because they will make RLS worse. :)

I am going to try those Motilium 10 today feel really sick

I took 1 Metoclopramide yesterday morning before I went on line - and because I trusted my GP - well I have had the worst night for months - up for most of it. I have checked and Boots and Lloyds Pharmacy have Motilium 10 in stock so will be buying today. Thank you everyone for your help.

Just to say i have used Motilium 10 before, when my meds have made me feel nausea's and it didnt make my RLS worse. Like i said in my comment before, its the only one i know of, and on Dr. B's website i have seen him say they can be used for nausea from the meds. So, hopefully they will be ok for those who try them too.

Hi, I take Domperidone 10mg, they were prescribed by my consultant from papworth hospital, who is treating me for my rls.

Yes, that is the ingredient in the Motilium 10. :)

A long while back, that was the drug that they gave to me along with

Valium for a very horrible positional vertigo. I can't say enough about it.

It's a prescription drug over here. I was told to reserve that drug for another

reason than getting sick from taking pills. My neuro told me that.

Obviously doctors disagree.

Hello, I also was at the RLS AGM last Saturday and to the best of my knowledge the doctor said that it was Domperidon abti sickness drug.

Hope this helps.
