Does anyone here feel that their RLS got worse during the Super Moon that just occurred or any full moon for that matter?

Support Groups are always way busier during the full moons, and I know I was highly affected this last week , worse than ever, as well as lots of my RLS friends. ;)

Most certainly not in my case, plus i do not see how a full moon can effect a neurological illness ?

I am only asking because I keep a notebook for everything, and it is crazy every full moon. Just an observation. ;)

Creedence Clearwater Revival. Love that song since I am an "older hippie" in Vermont on the US. ;) "WE got a bad moon risin', we know there's trouble on the way" is the first line. LOL "I see the rivers overflowing, and then I get lost with the words at this time of day for me.

lyricsfreak.com Corrected first lines . " I see a bad moon arisin', I see trouble on the way. I see Earthquakes and lightning, I see bad times today." Chorus-"Don't go round tonight, well it is' bound to take your life, there's a bad moon on the rise" and so on. Brings back memories, the tune of that song. ;)

Hi, new to this site. I am a long-term RLS sufferer, and I have had a terrible past week. It was only last night that someone said there had been a super-moon, and then I thought ah, perhaps that explains it. Of course, common sense would say no, it has no effect, but I have found that although scientifically It is a neurological disease, all kinds of effects can trigger my RLS, both internal and external. Of course, I am a bit of a hippy, so that might have something to do with it. I think the moon affects us all. Funnily enough since we passed the summer solstice I have felt a good deal better. I know most people think this is all clap-trap, but there is more to life than meets the eye. Science can only take us so far, and let's face it, it hasn't taken us that far with RLS. All options are open when searching for our individual causes.

in reply to Twenty-four7

yes, agreed, we are all different with this illness

in reply to Twenty-four7

I dont think its clap trap. No one really understand why some things are a trigger for RLS. The super moon didnt trigger my RLS off, but i do know it did for some.

in reply to Twenty-four7

I agree!

I'm finding myself wondering if there could be a connection as my RLS (which is mild compared to some of those on this forum) was really bad for three evenings this week and less so last night.

I'm sorry but lets get this in perspective. The moon is only a big rock going around the earth. The only thing it can effect is gravity. Perhaps more gravity may effect rls but nothing else.

Pete-1 profile image
Pete-1 in reply to Gonzo123

Even if there is an effect That effect can be real but the cause of whatever effect is being considered is the human mind and not some strange pseudo scientific tosh. The outcome may be real but the cause comes from the imagination.

The moon is more than a big rock. ;)

Yes, its a very very big rock.

I am really sorry, but I am chuckling away here. I didn't mean anything offensive by my comment but after a 15 hour night shift with no more than an average of 3 hours sleep per night , I just couldn't help myself...it seemed like a very apt comment at the time!!!!

Apart from that as a long time searcher for meaning, I do believe there is more to the world than meets the eye.

This might give some folk a laugh back.....I have some issues at work...for the last 2 days ,I have gone to work armed with black salt and a yellow crystal to ward off negativity! I have had 2 brilliantly productive days. My team have been awesome!

I know it's just a bit of rock and smaller rock dust but I believe it's all about intention. Carrying it gives me a positive , stronger outlook! ( yep, I am a hippy and have my crystals in Glastonbury water in sight of the moon!).

I carry crystals too, some I have had since college. ;)

i know the moon effect folks moods know that from an old neighbour of mine he used to become violent and moody but can't see how it'd make RLS worst then again mines up the wall anyway gggrrr

nightdancer profile image
nightdancer in reply to gypsy49

Mine is off the charts, to but when you think it cannot get any worse, it can I have found out. I am just telling you what I have observed, we could debate science all day, but even most doctors know that many of their patients have a harder time during the full moon and the summer hours. It seems to affect a lot of conditions, so was just asking this group is anyone had ever noticed on your side of the pond. ;)

My sister is a nurse who used to work at a mental hospital years ago that housed drug addicts also for drug rehab programs, and they had to prepare every month for it, as in and it the nursing home she worked in for 17 years, and now she works with the Veteran's Administration, and she says it is well documented in many people's charts, some with RLS and some not, but either way it, she says it always affects a lot of people's sleep patterns and behavior. And, like I said , in for the my own groups for the last 17 years, it is a regular pattern, every month. more than a "big rock" When it affects the tides ( gravity pull), and after the Super moon this past week on the Soltice, the largest da of the year, combine the two, and you never know. The tide upheaval lasted 3 days longer this month than usual. So, was just reporting my observations. ;) Even taking RLS out of the picture, people with Insomnia only get hit hard during the full moon.Of course, I am not saying everyone would be affected, but I know the pattern by now and do know which of my own group members will be affected every single month. The big group with 1280 people is enough people to show a definite pattern, is all I am saying. ;) We do not know what causes RLS or other things, so who knows. But,. as according to group rules, we are allowed to post our personal experiences and observations. So thought I would ask. I got my arse kicked 3 nights in a row this time for no good reason, have all my meds etc, so it is juts something to notice if it happens. And some people just have trouble with the time change in spring, so that could be part of it. I cannot stand it when it is light at 4:30 a.m. and not dark til 10 pm. In the winter my brain and legs shut down easier when it gets dark at 5 pm on the shorter days. I suffer all summer with just that one hour change and how much light we get. That is why my room is cave. Going back to bed. Had nerve blocks done and steroid shots done for my back, an the epidural has definitely worn officially worn off.

OWeeeeeeeeee! usually takes 5 or 6 days for me to get the pain level down after they ramp up the nerves. Nerves can get very angry when they get messed with. have a good weekend, everyone,. and I am interested in ALL your comments. Thanks! Too hot to breath fire, dragon! ;)

Hi Nightdancer, I am glad you and Elisse did not leave, we need you guys. I don't actually know when we had a Big or New moon but all I know is that last night my legs were really killing me. I don't get much jerking and twitching but more pain in my calves and sometimes cramps with it.

Anyway, I tried everything to get rid of the pain, I used a massager on my legs and that did not work, so I then tried the rolling pin which helped a bit but they kept cramping up all night, and usually I can release the cramp but not last night. I was twisted into all sorts of positions just trying to release it but I am glad to say that today I feel much better but the night is young yet.

Suzy

Hi glamourcat, i wasnt leaving completely, just taking some time out for a while...i have had to look in on here as i am expecting a pm.

Sorry you had a bad night, i also get pain in my calves, sometimes its really bad. i dont get cramps tho. Have you tried magnesium for the cramp, some say it works for them...

Hope your night is better tonight.

It is said that during the onset of a normal full moon that problems you have with emotion are elevated, and as the the moon reaches full and moves on that more of the problem is physical...as in physical pain. With that awesome Super Moon I can imagine it affected a lot more people than normal. I experience this, as do many others. I started noticing this about 10 years ago or so when I used to keep a daily diary of symptoms of my sick horse. After about 3 months I noticed a reoccurring problem with her asthma (and other things)... ALWAYS worse in the days leading up to the full moon...three days after the full moon...no problem at all. I did this for almost 8 months, at which time I had to put the horse down. I have many more examples, but we can leave it at that. I know a lot of people won't agree with this, and I'm okay with that, to each his/her own.

Oh, yes, I can tell when there is a full moon without having to go outside or read about it. My left leg starts jerking and I feel nervous in general. I know the moon influences our bodies just as it does with the ocean. Xanax helps.
