IS SLEEP DEPREVIATION DANGEROUS

I worry about the damage to my body from not sleeping. I am nauseated most of the time. Dizzy and feel really strange. Sometimes when I'm up at night I hear voices and feel people in my house. I talk to them also. At the time that I hear the voices, I know that I am hallucinating, so it doesn't scare me. This doesn't happen often. When I go to bed and if I fall asleep for a few minutes, I wake up shaking and frozen and can't seem to warm up. I can handle all of this as long as I know that I am not doing permanent damage to my body. Thank yo

Are you by any chance taking a dopamine agonist for your RLS, pramipexole, ropinirole or rotigotine?

I can't recall if you've said previously.

If yes then it's possibly that causing your hallucinations.

If not, then it could be due to sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation can cause such problems.

It can also lead to physical health problems.

The good thing about what you write is that you realise the voices aren't real. If this were a psychosis you probably would think them real.

You do need to see a doctor.

I was on 1.5 mg of prami and you gave me a schedule to follow to get off of it. I am now taking l. and half of a 5. I had an iron transfusion. Taking oxicodone for my back that needs surgery. Had my veins and arteries checked for blockage and nothing there. Don't have a doctor working with me on the augmentation. I just worry about how I feel. At times I feels as if my body is shutting down.

You were on quite a high dose of pramipexole and your current dose is still only down to the maximum, 0.75mg. That may still be a factor then in how you're feeling, hallucinations are a side effect.

They're not a withdrawal effect.

However, on the other hand I would have expected you to have these problems soon after first taking it.

I really suggest you see a doctor, it's still possibly sleep deprivation, I can't say for sure. Sleeping better would help.

Do you take pramipexole or mirapex both are the same that can make throw up feel nauseated and cause hallucinations. I was driving one night seen a albino deer split in three lol how I missed it is beyond me it never existed get off of any dopamine agonist

I take Pramipexole and have been taking it for many years. (close to 20 years). I seriously feel that the nausea and hallucinations is from not sleeping. Ever since I went into augmentation, sleep has been a serious problem.

As mentioned it sounds like side effects of your medicine. I would book an appointment to have a prescription review with your GP. Many chemists do this for free, with no wait, and are extremely knowledgeable about drugs more so than GP sometimes. I always chat to my pharmacist Ian who I have a better relationship than with new GP! I am an insomniac, the saying goes lack of sleep never killed anyone. However, it will rob you of your quality of life, cognitive abilities, patience and ability to communicate with others. It is not a joke that the Military use sleep deprivation to soften up detainees before interrogation. We all need different amounts of sleep, but it’s not the amount but the quality of sleep you get. I would speak to your GP who can refer you to the sleep clinic at your local hospital. I was checked for sleep apnoea and found fine.

Definitely discuss this with your doctor. Are there times when you can sleep? If so, sleep when you can.

I had hallucinations when I stopped ropinarole cold turkey, not something I would recommend doing. . It was a frightening experience as some hallucinations were nice and some nightmarish. The hallucinations only lasted for about a week and I think that it was not only the drug withdrawal but the total lack of sleep.

It is debilitating, no doubt. If I wasn’t a carer for our son, I’d probably concentrate on myself more and wonder if the pain of getting through each day was worth it. However, I hope I’d stay resilient and keep looking for a solution, just as you are. Good luck and I hope it improves. Sleep is such a beautiful thing!
