Hi, they dont recognise RLS as a disability in this country, and especialy with all these new rules and benefit cuts now, you wouldnt get DLA. If you have other health problems with it maybe you would get some then,
I have osteoporosis, arthritis in my spine and right hip, waiting for a hip transplant at the moment, and i have some collapsed vertabrae in the bottom of my spine, plus ive had two mini strokes, i applied for DLA, guess what, they said im fit for work !!
= ( Hope you are getting some good care for the last
paragraph..You sure have your plate full and it's not fair.
Fit to work, I think that they messed that decision up on you.
So sorry.
they interviewed a woman with Chron's disease, at the end of the interview they said to her "you can wear a nappy and work" !! words fail me
Oh my gosh, that is sad..
I was on incapacity benefit for RLS but you have to be under 60
I am under 60 and was refused it eileen49, !! oo not fair
Hello margaretann
Your situation sounds the same as mine re DLA.
I saw a question about this same subject some time ago and the answer made sense. If i remember correctly you wont get DLA for RLS but you can for the effects it has on your daily living. For egsample Clinical depression [ low to severe symptoms ] - loss of appitite, no motivation to wash, eat and take care of yourself, thoughts of Self harm, insomnia. It is not unusual for people with depression to have panic attacks and general anxiety as well. Hypersomnia - excessive tiredness during the day due to sleep deprivation and needing to have naps during the day to prevent falling asleep. If the conditions are right, I was sitting in a warm waiting room and I was early and had to wait a while and was very sleepy and fell asleep I had to be woken up by other people as i was at the Dr`s. If you drive and you are feeling sleepy you may have an accident .Sleep deprivation effects the brain and cognitive function, Meaning it effects your short term memory, your ability to problem solve and your ability to learn it impairs your ability to function. these are the things you should put down on a DLA application form. I dont know how severe your symptoms are but you will need the support of your Gp to give you a medical certificate [ uk ] You dont say if you are on any medication at the moment. Again if you are the sideffects of the drugs can effect your ability to work. I am on Pramipexole and suffer from many sideffects, the most dangerous is what they call sudden sleep onset, I have suddenly fallen asleep for 1-3 mins while in the middle of a conversation while on the phone, while eating, traveling on the bus, while on the computer, in a taxi and sitting in waiting rooms.
I think it is worth filling out a DLA form describing the effects of RLS has on your ability to function, using medical terms as it looks better. I know its even more difficult to get DLA now but if you are refused it the first time you can appeal. If you back your case on Medical evidence eg Gp report and research on the effects of RLS you have a good chance.
Of course you have to have the time ,energy, and the motivation to keep going to get a result so some thought is needed before you start. I have read that a lot of people give up but some continue to fight and get there DLA.
I hope this helps

You can have a million things wrong with you but you can still
answer phones for a living is what I was told.. I could scream
that answering phones is not providing a living wage!
(maybe they mean to talk dirty to x rated men, haha)
I have RA to boot and they still denied me..
My doctors were on board to help me out but unfortunately
after 4 times, I am done for.. I work. I suffer. I have children
besides to contend with along with my own schedule and
my husband's schedule.
wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_you_... just found this, so im applying again dam it !!!
There is a drug called fentanyl which definitely helps. Comes in 12 and 25 mg patches. It is strong however and makes you sleepy. Keep in mind it is a narcotic.
