Hi Gary71, welcome to our on-line stop smoking community.

Within 20 minutes of smoking your last cigarette, your blood pressure will return to normal :-) This is on top of many other health benefits that your body will gain now that you've stopped. Sometimes when a person quits smoking, they can't always see any improvements but there are many changes and benefits that go on 'behind the scenes' so to speak.

I've just popped up a blog for you to show you some of the other benefits your body will gain through you stopping smoking.

Congratulations on making such a fantastic decision to stop smoking. Let me know what your quit date is and I'll make sure your name is added onto our Wall of Winners - The place where every quitter is a winner :D

Remember that any withdrawal symptom that you get is a positive sign of recovery.

You really can do this :D

Emjay, I have been on three tablets a day for 15 + years due to high blood pressure, I have been smoke free for three days now (Hooray!!) will my BP really go back to normal

Hi Artful. People who don't smoke and have never smoked can have high blood pressure. If you haven't already, I would make an appointment with your GP and chat through it with them. They know your medical history and they know the reasons for your high BP. Great that you've stopped smoking, good luck with that :)

Hi Artfulcodger,

If you were to have your blood pressure taken before and immediately after smoking a cigarette, you will see that it will go up. So if you already have a high blood pressure rate then this really isn't good for your health and by stopping smoking you are doing yourself a great favour.

What a 'normal blood pressure rate' is for you, may be different then what it is for the next person.

Let us know how you get on at the Dr's today and make sure you very proudly tell him / her that you have stopped smoking :-)

Well done to you! :-)

Unfortunately I could not get to see the Doc, and now cannot get an app til this time next week! - so I am off to see the Nurse who runs the stop smoking clinic today to have my BP taken, and have a general chat. I still marvel that I have stopped after 50 + years.

amazing what you can do once you get your stubborn head on is'nt it!

If I can remember what I am told by the Nurse, I will attempt to relate it on here in the hope it may help others.

I really appreciate all the support - many thanks
