Halfway through day 1 and my head is pounding... - Quit Support
Halfway through day 1 and my head is pounding. Don't remember this last time I quit?????
Afternoon Dawn, I hope you are feeling slightly better.
Headaches can often be caused by stopping smoking. This is because your body is starting to go through the recovery (withdrawal) process and is kicking up a bit of a fuss as you are not feeding it with all those poisons and toxins that it has been used to over the years.
The best thing that you can do at the moment, is drink a glass of water and if you feel that it will help take a simple painkiller such as paracetamol.
If you feel a bit stressed with quitting, then make sure that you are breathing properly as this will also cause you to feel tense and may lead to headaches.
It may be just a one off headache that you have, plenty of water and rest will help.
If it is a headache that is brought on by stopping smoking then try and focus on the positive outcomes of stopping smoking. These headaches won't last forever and are a positive sign that your body is getting itself back to how it's supposed to be
You are doing really well so lets keep heading in the right direction together
Thanks Emjay,
I actually feel a bit better now. Have been drinking water all afternoon and think
this has helped. I'm not craving for a ciggi because the patches really do help.
Tomorrow is another day and each one that passes is another step.
Thanks again.
Dawn
Good stuff. If the water gets a bit boring try adding a drop of cordial into it
It will be worth it in the end
