I used to smoke 5 years ago! Want to smoke EC... - Quit Support
I used to smoke 5 years ago! Want to smoke ECigs, just reasons, 1 weight gain. Q:will they make me want a real cig?
Hi Hudson, not quite understanding your question. Are you saying you have been stopped smoking for 5 years but would like to try the e-cig in the hope you will lose some weight? If that is so, please don't. E-cigs are nothing like real cigs, they don't give the same buzz as a real cig and now you've been stopped 5 years it really isn't worth it. You can lose weight other ways. Dieting, gym, walking, they are all far healthier ways of losing weight. Really? Will they make you want a real cig? Well I'd say yes, because like I say they're rubbish compared to real cigarettes and you really don't want to take the risk of smoking again do you? Just be really, really thankful that you don't smoke any more and that you are free of nicotine, because I tell you now, I soooooo wish I was free of nicotine, dieting is the easiest thing in the world compared to getting off nicotine.
Yes Hudson, as Sinfree has said, could you please explain a bit more, then perhaps we can help you eh
A big warm welcome to this lovely quit site

Yes I slowly gained 20 pounds over the last 5 years and I stopped smoking one day at a time! I never said to myself or others "I quit" because I only would set myself up for failure, having said that I ave not had a cigarette for 5.5 years! The craving is gone do not miss it, however I think because of the weight gain the "oral fixation" is still there. This is where I thought the E-Cig may help so instead of extra food I had a couple puffs!
Hi Hudson. Thanks for coming back to us. I need to go in a minute but hey, please reconsider the e-cig idea as I think it would be a very backward step. It would be such a shame, especially as you say you never think about smoking any more. You can get zero nicotine liquid for e-cigs but in all honesty I think that would be pointless. 20 pounds is not a huge amount of weight anyway. What about, I dunno, sucking on a biro pen without the middle bit in. To be honest using an e-cig with zero nicotine would pretty much give the same effect. If the weight really bothers you and you think you might carry on putting weight on what about joining a weight loss group like Weightwatchers or slimming world, they may be able to help you out on what healthy, low calorie snacks you could have.
You have done so well to be stopped for 5.5 years, it's brilliant so stick with it and just don't take the risk with an e-cig
Good advice , thank you for our time, all good suggestions.
I go to a weight loss group, they are great..you can meet people...
I'm going to get my bicycle out soon, that helps....
I was a none smoker 20 years ago and chose to start smoking to lose weight..
Terrible idea, thought I could have just ONE or TWO
Dumbest choice I ever made...it takes complete control of you
Ecigs MIGHT help me stop smoking ( I hope )
But I would never puff anything again thinking it would help me lose weight!!!
By the way, I didn't lose weight, it was ridiculous!
NOW I'm chubby, AND addicted,
Don't do it! My advice
TerryOR No I want to smoke E-Cigs to solve the oral fixation, so instead of putting food in my mouth I can have a few puffs...but I have not yet. Someone mentioned they have 0 nicotine ones. Do not know yet but I do not even want a cig, no cravings. None. However for you E-Cigs are NOT suppose to help you stop smoking. They are so you can have a cig anywhere and not Crete any smoke or smell. Just thought I would let you know that.
Sounds like a slippery slope...I quit smoking 4 months ago and have gained 15 pounds while using eciggs, that's what I used to quit. So I'm not sure starting eciggs is the way to go.just my two cents...
Thanx Cowbaybc, sounds like I will leave well enough alone.
Hi Hudson2579,
welcome to Quit Support
You've been given some great advice above, how do you feel now about making your choice?
Initially, it sounds as though you made the best choice for your health and 5 years down the line are still smoke free. Now, it seems that your choice to make is around your weight-gain - this is a completely different thing but you can use your mind to work at it in the same way that you did when you wanted to beat the nicotine
There is a weight-loss community on here that you may want to pick up some healthy eating tips - remembering that you need to burn off / use up more calories than you are putting in
