My Dad is suffering from extremely low blood pressure. It seems to have stablised a bit this morning (127 / 55), but last night it dropped to 95 / 55. He is obviously extremely tired as well. Any advise???

Low Blood Pressure
Hi Coleen. It is interesting that PSP does cause low blood pressure - but I would watch it -that's pretty low- My advice is to take his temperature frequently. Many nurses will tell you not to worry about a fever that is low grade (99) but you must watch that -- a low grade fever is consistant with aspiration pnueomonia and UTI's. Any infection can go Sepsis quickly - -Has your dad had any infections recently? Keep taking his vitals - blood pressure and up and down & fevers can tell you that there is an infection and/or the body is having a hard time regulating itself. My advise is to take vitals everytime you administer medications (before administering) so that you can get a good reading. You may also want to take a listen to the lungs. Start charting it so you can share the info with the nurse or doctor and then any treatment decisions can be made.
Hi Dllera
Thanks so much for your advise. My Dad's b/pressure has now dropped to 80/40 and he is not very responsive. His Doctor will be making a house call today. Lists of all his medication on hand. My Dad has not had any infections lately. He did, however, have a permanent catheter inserted last week, but this was done with a local only. I will, however, ask my Mom to monitor his temperature as well. Will keep you posted.
Always check for infection when somethng unusual happens quickly. Try UTI, a sample to the GP -as it is the quickest one to check.Mum only has issues like this when something is brewing. Is he on BP tablets? Tell the GP if he is as low BP is a frequent problem too and he may need to come off them. This all happened to my mum last year. Hope this helps.
