Neck Pain.

Does anyone have recommendations about reducing neck pains/spasms? I am not really clear if my mother's neck pain is skeletal or muscular.

Have purchased a sort of collar/neck pillow, which is stuffed with oatmeal and can be heated in a microwave. This sometimes helps a little. But I would welcome ideas from other sufferers.

Thank you,

Amanda.

My husband has the same issue. His neck is in spasm and, untreated, he continually looks at the ceiling. The best treatment for this has been periodic Botox injections into the muscles on the back of the neck. It lasts about 2.5 months and then it needs to be administered again. We have also had a similar drug injected into the salivary glands which decreases salivation and mostly eliminates drooling. Sadly, his back is also becoming very rigid and he has one hand in contracture. It is devastating to watch this happen to someone you love.

Thank you, Mira. I am going to check out Botox, in case we need it in the future. Meanwhile, we'll use the collar and massage.

Interestingly, my mother also has a hand contracture. I have never seen contractures listed as a symptom of PSP. Perhaps it's just a coincidence?

Best regards,

Amanda.
