neck pain

hello, have you found a way to ease neck pain? My husband was diagnosed with PSP a few years ago, though like many, symptoms were evident a few years before this.

He is suffering with neck pain. He also has pain in upper arms (deltoid) Gp thinks arm problem may be Frozen shoulder and has referred him to PT. He is on Madopar to see if that will help the tightness in his neck, I try and massage the area, he uses paracetamol.

Any body else having this problem? Have you found ways to ease the pain?

Many thanks

Hi mum's had similar pain for 6/7 years now the pain is across her neck and shoulders and upper arms. We tried physio which didn't make a vast amount of difference and have settled on using ibuprofen gel which seems to reduce the pain . Hope you find a solution x

Many thanks for your reply. We will go ahead with the physio appt (a month to wait!) and continue with some gel.

My husband had severe neck pain on right side. It appeared to be swollen at times.I gave hime Naproxen Sodium ( Aleve) and ice pack which helped for awhile. His movement disorder Neuro said it was dystonia with muscle spasms and gave him botox injections which helped clear it up, repeating the injection every three months kept him comfortable. If you go the botox route, be sure it is someone highly skilled with using botox for that this type of problem. Hope he gets relief.

Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated, given us food for thought.

We have a similar issue with neck and shoulder pain, as others have said physio hasn't really help, so I give daily neck massages with PainGone freeze gel and this seems to help. Also he has a professional masseuse every month at home which does really help.

Hope you find a solution that helps. xxx

This neck pain may be dystonia. Botox may be a solution if it administered by an experienced neurologist. If there are swallowing issues, you might have to take a pass, so as to avoid further weakening of the muscles in the throat area. There are topical treatments available, I use Voltaren, myself. A heating pad and neck massager are included in my 'tool' box as well.

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to say he is trying Voltoral cream at the moment. The heat pad and massager looks interesting, it’s the sort of thing he would consider. I’m going to look them up! Thanks

Hi, Rose1. I just wrote on another post that chiropractic, which I was sceptical of, did help my sweetheart when his neck developed a bend and nerves were getting pinched. Something like 3 appointments straightened his neck and it never went back. He lost the boney hump and all.

Thank you, hadn’t thought of that.
