Towards the end of his journey my husband said things didn't taste right but I don't think he'd lost his taste completely. It's probably due to something else. Have you had COVID ? I'd talk to your doctor.
Hi, As for smell, do you suffer from PSP-P ? Some PDs complain of losing smell. Regarding taste, it could be the effect of taking some medicines. Best wishes
Yes my husband always seems to lose his taste by late afternoon so we make sure we have a cooked meal at lunchtime to reduce his stress about not tasting anything! His smelling sense seems fine
Here's what AI says about PSP and loss of smell:"Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP ) 【patients] typically have a normal sense of smell, but some may have a reduced sense of smell, a condition called hyposmia.
Less common, but some patients may report changes in taste or pain perception.
Some studies have found that olfactory testing can help differentiate PSP from other conditions, such as Parkinson's disease."
I possibly have PSP-CBS and currently don't suffer from loss of smell or taste.
My husband lost his sense of smell very early on when symptoms first started showing up and remained throughout. As for taste my husband never mentioned it but he became obsessed with sweet food and wanted syrup and sugar added to food and that remained throughout.
I know Parkinsons can cause loss of sense and smell. Possible you have the PSP-P subtype.
Hi I have had PSP for the past 4 years and prior to that was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I lost my sense of smell very early on - some 7years in total. To not have any sense of smell is very hard and quite depressing. My sense of taste comes and goes, but I can generally taste hot food to varying degrees.
