Hi,
Mum hasn’t but did he have heart problems? All my grandparents developed heart problems when they were older and had swollen ankles - has the GP tested his heart?
Sorry to hear, we've no experience with the blistering, but my husband gets swollen ankles and legs. The swelling was worse when my husband started with Amantadine but that went away after a few weeks use - does your husband have any medication that could lead to swollen ankles? We try to find a balance between resting in the recliner with legs raised, vs spending time sitting and standing upright and putting weight through the legs.
Exercise is really important to improve circulation and we help my husband walk as much as possible and also use a pedal exercise he can do while in the chair. Of course check with your doctor if the exercise is suited and safe for him.
Massages (with lotion or even better with magnesium oil) helps a lot, we also use ice packs if there is pain after exercise. There is also a device that might help stimulate the legs (I'll look up the reference) - my husband hasn't tried this but my mother found it beneficial with her MS.
Best wishes, Bergenser 🌻🫂
* The device I was thinking of is Revitive but there are similar devices that all promise to relieve swollen legs and feet.
Does he have heart problems or high cholesterol? If he is taking amlodipine for his heart, it might be the reason. Taking it long time especially 25% people will have edema (plus taking calcium channel blocker). So talk to your gp or heart doctor about those meds.
Is he still mobile? If not, has he checked for peripheral artery disease (PAD) for his legs, blocked artery at the end will cut off circulation completely and cause ulcers to form.
